Which printer for coloured pencil drawings?

Hi Everyone,

First a disclaimer... I tried searching for this topic via the search function but it wasn't working, my screen just turned white.... anyone else have that happen?

Anyways, I have been asked to donate a couple of drawings for some endangered species habitat restoration. I love the idea of using my work to raise funds for such worthy causes and I am excited to help, although I would rather donate prints instead of originals. After being approached by these folks I now feel empowered to help other causes, all are wildlife related... I think buying my own printer would be the best bet.

I have been researching them a bit and it seems Epson are pretty good. The 1400 and 1900 both look decent, although I havn't seen the results of either first hand. Do you folks have any recomendations?

I appreciate any thoughts, opinions and ideas.

Here's the kind of work I do

Cheers!

Separate cartridges for each colour ink is a must.
Also you need to get one with a flat a paper path as possible or heavy papers won't go through properly.

You certainly need a good printer to do justice to this drawing.

Jonathan.

Re: Which printer for coloured pencil drawings?

I think I might just buy a refurbished epson 1400...it is only $200.

If I were to get the 1400 can anyone recommend a good paper to use for a drawing like the one pictured above? I have no experience in this and don't know anyone who does to ask. Any advice?

Thanks!

Re: Which printer for coloured pencil drawings?

I used to have an Epson 1290 (1280 in the US) and thought the quality was amazing. I now have an R800 and love it. It can do everything, except print really big; go for an R1800 if you want bigger.
Epson is hard to beat for print quality, although it has its own issues.
Check out the types of ink (pigmented preferably, not dye), its longevity (fading, waterproof etc), and play around with different inkjet papers (Hahnemuhle is market leader and has the best, Arches, Bockingford, Museo etc etc). There is a huge amount of info on the net about printing giclees, reproductions etc, so: have fun!
