creature feature - january 2010

ok something simple and easy to start the year.

The Jackalope

The jackalope is an imaginary animal of North American folklore (a so-called "fearsome critter") described as a jackrabbit with antelope horns or deer antlers and sometimes a pheasant's tail (and often hind legs). The word jackalope is a portmanteau of "jackrabbit" and "antalope", an archaic spelling of antelope.
It is possible that the tales of jackalopes were inspired by sightings of rabbits infected with the Shope papilloma virus, which causes the growth of horn- and antler-like tumors in various places on the rabbit's head and body.
more information can be found on wikipedia.

reveal date: anytime after the 15th i guess as usual, sorry for it being late. Happy New Year.

Talking Re: creature feature - january 2010

Lol!
The dreaded Jackalope!
I had the pleasure of visiting The Hall of Horns in San Antonio Texas-and saw both a Jack Rabbit with that virus,('horns' erupted everywhere)and a Jackalope too(taxidermed(sp))
So funny!
Thanks Chaosia!

Re: creature feature - january 2010

I've always wanted to draw a jackelope! Thanks for giving me a reason to, Chaosia!!! (seeing visions of fluffy white bunnies milling around with antlers---wondering if they head-butt each other when they fight like deer....hmmmm....)

Re: creature feature - january 2010

So i think I saw a photo of a baby rabbit and that was it...bunnylopes were born, courtsey of my mad muse Thalia (she escaped her padded cell again).

and yet even more...

This however has me and my boyfriend wanting a pet bunny now.

I truly want to hug/snuggle them & tickle/scratchie those cute little antlers!
You should let this Thalia muse escape more often!
Uh oh, do you think Bunnylope & Snuffles will be able to get along???

Re: creature feature - january 2010

Theres a reason she's in a padded cell...if she's out all i do is same thing for awhile...like 50+ my little ponies...and my other muses don't get a say in anything...usually coz she's tied them up.

hmm snuffles meets bunnylope XD

Re: creature feature - january 2010

Oh! Now I feel guilty.
I was going to draw a Texas Jackrabbit-aloupe!
But something else invaded my brain instead..dragons. and Kappas for some reason, and that blue fishguy, and 2 point perspective....I will try to get mine on paper just as soon as I tire of drawing my firebreathing creature(s). Housework has gone to hell. ;( I think that madness you said your Muse has-must somehow be infectious....

Finally! My baby jackelope has arrived. This was my first try with Water Color Pencils, and I love them! C&C's welcome, of course!
