Thanks Linda! I made a bunch of origami cranes for Alida's birthday last year and hung them from the ceiling on threads... folding is very zen!

Re: 3D Folded Block Brooch pattern/demo
Esther, in my wanderings I have missed adding my congratulations and thanks for this step by step of your wonderful technique! NOW I get how you do it! The possibilities are clearly limitless, and the depth and illusion of traditional piecing is quite wonderful.

Re: 3D Folded Block Brooch pattern/demo
Thanks so much and you're welcome, Jen! I've just made a few more of them for my girls, but I keep forgetting to have them model for me. I'll post some pics here this week or next.
By the way, we got our book projects back from AQS in June, so I took a bunch of pics for the website gallery. I'll be uploading them today or tomorrow (depending on whether my dial-up connection can handle it or whether I have to send them with Darren to work ). Go have a peek if you have a chance!

Re: 3D Folded Block Brooch pattern/demo
Hi patonleeward, and thank you!
FYI, cutting directions for blocks of this type (where 4 points meet in the middle) have been altered slightly. For the first layer, the four pieces are reduced in size by 1/8" to make them easier to position.
Check out my website for more information here... http://3dfoldedblocks.com/step2tip.html
Miss you guys in the Stitch! Hope you're all happily buried in projects Goodness knows I am!

Re: 3D Folded Block Brooch pattern/demo
Esther, wonderful to hear from you! I think of you often, and just gave my sister-in-law your book, along with a set of fabrics, for her birthday, to inspire her!
Hope all is well.

Re: 3D Folded Block Brooch pattern/demo
Esther thank you so much for the 3D Folded Block Brooch pattern and demo. I made a little brooch and it turned out very nice. I did make some changes. I added a very thin piece of batting and then a backing. On the binding, I cut the strip 2" instead of 1 1/2" and applied it like I would for a quilt with mitered corners. Where do you find the brooch findings? Thanks again. Love this site.

Re: 3D Folded Block Brooch pattern/demo
Hi Jen, I miss you guys so much! Thanks again for your little email... love the new signature image. Looks really cool as a thumb print!
Brooch findings... I find mine on eBay. I ordered some silver ones from a shop in England. They got here super quick and were really nice with 3 holes on the back to stitch through. I think they were a couple of dollars each, so I ordered a dozen.
So glad you like the pattern! I've hung little danglies, charms & beads on some of mine too (gave them away without taking pics, so unfortunately I can't show you). Lots of ways to personalize them... have fun!
