Re: Basics 101: Class 2 - Foundation of Perspective

Thanks.

I'll try and post up exercise 3 as soon as I can.

Re: Basics 101: Class 2 - Foundation of Perspective

I have a question, I'm not really used to not showing a vanshing point if it's not in view. Do you have any tips about that? I also think I'm doing the second set of lines incorrectly that are with my boxes. ( I really hope it's alright to ask questions. I apologize ..)

Make a good guess. It is not that difficult with a bit of practice. Look, the blue lines are probably OK, the red is clearly wrong.

Sorry, I'm not clairvoyant, I have no clue where you are looking at.

Re: Basics 101: Class 2 - Foundation of Perspective

Okay this is just a practice post of Exercise 3 that I'm having.

I also can't really tell where some of the lines are going which way on the corners when at different angles . So it looks really bad here. So you can only turn objects certain ways when doing perspective right ?

Now on the contrary, perspective follows the position of the objects, always.
A few comments on these preliminary sketches:
-- First, I don't understand what "A" is supposed to represent.
-- I assume you see "B" as the horizon line. But as I explained before, all VP's must lie on the HL, taking into account that we deal only with the perspective of horizontal lines in this basic class. But in your sketch, only lines "C" converge to a VP on the HL .

-- Further away looks smaller. Look at the VL that I drew ("1"), the back edge is a lot larger than the front .
-- Further away looks smaller, and the VL's show you how much smaller. Forcibly, the VL's should run away from you, not towards you as in "2". They must show how it evolves away from you because further away looks smaller.
-- Further away looks smaller, and the VL's show you how much smaller.
What does line "3" show you ? If you draw a line between 2 points, you can freely choose the position of both points, the line will always connect both. But when a line connects 3 points, only 2 points are free (say one corner and the VP), and the line shows you where the other (say the second corner) must come.
BTW, it is strongly advised to use a ruler for drawing the VL's.

Ok I'll try harder. I just now redid the picture with a ruler and it helped a bit. Hopefully this one is more correct.

Re: Basics 101: Class 2 - Foundation of Perspective

Wrong one that I wanted to post. I just realized that. I feel so slow today. :/

Well at least I had fun doing this one. Hopefully it's right and I'm getting it somehow..

I'm nervous right now.

Also the box next to the tv is supposed to be a Wii but a really badly drawn one.

Well done, Catherine .
You've grasped the basic ideas of perspective .
Now in the beginning you'll have to pay attention to it, but after a while you will develop a gut feeling for what looks right.
Please move on to class 3 .

I'll keep paying close attention! I'm really happy that I got it right. I feel a bit better about my art and it was really fun to do.
