Use to denote nudity/mature subject matter Every once in a while.... (WIP)

"Every once in a while, I throw my memories into the air and when they fall back down into me I relive the happiness."
Second in my Golden years series.
The title is self explanatory.
12" X 12"
C&C not only welcomed, but needed.
Laying down of the gold paper on the body
There were 8 coats of Gloss medium on the canvas before I worked the body in.

Beginning with the memory toss, highlighting the body, and layering in the hair

Detail of the memories and the colours I achieved with the gold & silver foil (some painted for a different hue)

Final work, this is much richer than it shows here, again the gloss makes it near impossible to get a decent photo.

A different view of the painting.

Re: Every once in a while.... (WIP)

Thanks Robert.... I am doing a series of the beauty of a mature woman
the first in the series is here....

Gayle....I am pleased that you are seeing what I am trying to convey!
While they are taking a long time because of the layers of gloss, the actual compositions are not all that hard, as they are already done in my mind!
Somehow the flow of paint seems to complete itself without any help from me.

Re: Every once in a while.... (WIP)

i think it is beautiful and confident.

The idea is being realized.

The composition bothers me. the figure is close to center and close to symmetry. SO CLOSE that the lack of symmetry and centering bothers me.

but the impasto handling with the glazed tones the volumes in the buttock and spine are developing.

You are still somewhere in between a traditional realism and a caracature attitude.

Re: Every once in a while.... (WIP)

Thank for your kindness ribeyedsmile;
To be honest, I am not sure what you are looking for.

Quote:

Nothing about the aged body is symetric. Least wise mine sure is not.
I am not looking for perfection here, as perfection belongs to the young.
I am lauding the Mature woman that has accepted that she is who she is.
Again centering is not important to this work (I think) What is important is the impressions gathered by those who see her catching her memories so she can live them again.

I have no idea what you are trying to tell me here....Could you please clarify. Your opinion is important to me.
Thanks
~~Kathleen

Re: Every once in a while.... (WIP)

well....its all subjective so....

Your work dosn't need centering nor does it need to be shifted more off center. as you say...the older human form is alive and well in its many shapes (my own has found its own off centered shape)

But it is just off center. my eye naturally looks left and right in comparison. Its just what i do and i notice a diference. Not important...just something to notice.

Then I noticed that you glaze shadows onto the figure. You are headed towards a carefully rendered realism. You started with a bright white figure but you seem to be going to realism.

It seems in between the two styles. "caracature like in the artist Daumier (french impressionism) or realism like Degas (french impressionism) or
Modernism of matisse: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Matissedance.jpg

you are in between these styles

Re: Every once in a while.... (WIP)

This is really neat, I love it. I don't find the 'off center' off-puttng. I have the feeling that she is not looking exactly away from us, but at an angle towards the center as the hair shows. Therefore, the assymetry works for me....... something directly in the center would be boring. Were you looking at me the other night and painted my pic here.....?

Re: Every once in a while.... (WIP)

Thank you Foxy and Anthony.
As we all know, this is not the type of painting that will appeal to everyone.
While the figure is recognizable, the idea is very abstract.
I am so enjoying doing these.
No pressure, I am doing them just because.

Ribeye, to clarify, the original body is not white (whitish) it is composed of a gazillion tiny little scraps of gold paper stuck to the canvas.
The photos are misleading in that with the gloss and the gold paper reflection/glare is almost a given when photographing these works.
The shadows are painted in with a concentrated mixture of Hunters green and Jenkins green and glazed much later.
LOL, I have no idea what style these are, I am constantly experimenting with new ideas, and the end result of anything I paint, is usually as much a surorise to me as anyone.

no problem at all Ribeyedsmile.
We all see things in our own way, and that is what makes Art such a wonderful medium of expression.

Kathleen this is lovely!! I am still coming to terns with gravity....not fond of it at all...but since it seems to happen to all but a few...sigh...what will be will be. The joy of memories...the golden moments of life....those I know...and savor often these days!
