Re: Basic 101: Pre-Class Assignments and FAQs
Hi, my name is Matt and I'm excited to join the class. I want to get better in a variety of areas. I've been drawing on and off throughout my life (I quit doing it seriously because I got discouraged and just gave up) but I started to get interested in getting serious in art and drawing cartoons in 2009. I aspire to be a cartoonist but I also want to hone my realistic drawing skills so I can be a great artist all around (realism skills will also help with cartooning or any art form in general). I think my skills are less-than satisfactory and desire to learn all I can- the only problem is that I get impatient and/or intimidated when it comes to the challenges and obstacles associated with drawing (such as objects obscured in too much detail than I can handle); therefore I want to learn how to control that fear and strive to be the best artist I can be. My favorite subject to draw when it comes to either cartoons or realism is anything animal-related- humans are one of my greatest weaknesses, I believe. I'll show my drawing in the following posts. (I will show another drawing that I did digitally a few months back as well) I know it looks rather crude, but I'm focusing on getting better. Looking forward to learning some things in the class!

Re: Basic 101: Pre-Class Assignments and FAQs
Hi, I'm des. I've always thought, that drawing skills are something your born with, so as a kid, I never even tried. Not until, I took a short course in figure drawing about 3 years ago, then, I thought maybe I could do it. That thought, unfortunately ended shortly. I just couldn't keep up with my classmates, and just lost my confidence, so I stopped.
Anyway, I then stumbled to this website, and just joined. It took me a while to actually post here, because I wanted to make sure that I would have the will to actually follow through the class, and not quit halfway.

Re: Basic 101: Pre-Class Assignments and FAQs
And so, here's my pre-class assignment, it's supposed to be a portrait of Ginnifer Goodwin, but I failed. Hopefully, through this class, time and practice I'd Improve. Also, my focus would be on figure and portrait drawing.

Re: Basic 101: Pre-Class Assignments and FAQs
Hey all,
I'm a complete newb and I'm at the level of being able to draw a barely passable stick figure.
What kind of thing would you suggest drawing for my beginning picture?

Welcome to the classroom .
For the pre-class drawing, choose something that you really would like to draw well, but have problems with.

Welcome to the classroom, Mark .
Nice sketch for 10 minutes . First thing you will realize is that serious drawing takes time. A couple of hours is already considered fast.
Please move on to class 1, getting accustomed to handling the pencil in different ways.

Re: Basic 101: Pre-Class Assignments and FAQs
Hi everyone, i just joined and introduced myself in the Welcome Section so ill be brief. My names Richard and have drawn on and off for years. I recently decided i would love to be a free-lance artist or an illustrator and joined this sight for the classroom activity. Ive already done my 1st Pre-class Assignment.
Its rather rough as i didnt have much time, but the rest will be better. I want to get better at drawing Everything, especially realistic drawing of the figure and head. But would also like to dabble into cartoons and anything that fits my mood. Thanks and heres my assignment. Edit-sorry need 2 posts so ill upload next post.
