Lady meets Crane
This is a watermedia I did a while back. It started out as a watercolour but I didn't like the results of what I had painted in the centre panel so scrubbed it out, but as I had used staining paint it left a great mess. I covered the mess with gesso leaving some texture , put a new drawing on and then painted the panel with acrylic leaving the bamboo 'frame' and BG in watercolour then varnished over all .
it is a full sheet , 22 X 30 inches .Arches cp 140#.
A poor photo , the BG is actually a light cream colour not white as it appears in the photo.

Re: Lady meets Crane
Pearl- this is just gorgeous in every way! The figure and crane are positively stunning, and the characters and bamboo frame are exquisite!
If this is what you get when you mess up, you should do it more often! WOW!
Oh, and it is BIG too...and the bamboo really does look like bamboo with the proper joints too- outstanding!

Lovely job on this!! Sometimes things come out really well when we mess up. The texture and the color make this stand out!!

Re: Lady meets Crane
Pearl, this is absolutely beautiful!! The background texture is gorgeous and bamboo is a perfect frame for the geisha and crane. That circle and fan shape of bamboo and at the top are brilliant. This has to be even more gorgeous up close and personal.

Pearl, this is awesome!! I had to keep reminding myself that this was not a real panel, but a painting on paper. Love it all!!

Re: Lady meets Crane
Thank you so very much Linda, Joan, Mary-Lou and Katherine for your nice and much appreciated comments.
I have not found the right framing for it yet, so it is just push pinned onto the wall of my small studio.

Re: Lady meets Crane
I just love this! Is there any chance you could give us a closeup of the lady and the crane?

Re: Lady meets Crane
Thank you aszurblue for your comments.
Here you go Patty , glad you like this.
The Kanji calligraphy ( which doesn't show in the close up as I hadn't painted it on yet when I took this photo.) at the top right says ," Beautiful lady meets crane with joy and a clapping of hands". bottom left is my signature.
This is entirely my own design but in the style of old paintings.
