Talking Enchanted Rainforest WIP Acrylic & Gouache

I decided to do another WIP . This is going to be a larger painting 20x30 based on a smaller one I did earlier this this.

I started with a Crescent watercolor board. I cover the front with 3 layers of gesso and 2 coats on back.

Then I poured white gesso and mixed with shades of yellow, green, some purple and some grey gesso. Then just using the flat of my hand and LOTS of water I just started smearing the paint .

I now have my layout for the the forest scene.
Stat tuned, I will be back with more....

I have started to add the trees. Trying to get the look of moss. The trees are done with a pouring of liquid acrylics. Makes a wonderful bark look when it fries. Already have a good foundation for a path through the woods.

I put a light wash of yellow green gouache over the trees to get them to recede more into the back ground. The moss is tricky, first time I have ever tried to paint hanging moss.
Started on the rock to the right of the path. I like to give the viewer a direction through the woods to follow.

Working in gouache I have added rocks along the path edge.

When I opened this post I though, oh well, now I think, oh Wow. I am really enjoying seeing this painting come to life and your process. The artistic mind never ceases to amaze me. I'll keep watching.........Lenore

Re: Enchanted Rainforest WIP Acrylic & Gouache

A bit farther along. The new tree reflected the flash (it was done with poured acrylics) in removing the highlights I lost a lot of the detail and color but hopefully I will get a better picture outdoors when I am done. If it isn't pouring down rain, I do live in the Pacific Northwest.

I love the journey these type of paintings take me on! Other then establishing a light source I have no idea what the forest will look like. My husband was the one that told me the pouring looked like a rainforest so I went with it.

Adding more light, and dark trees in the back. The large area in front will be a large tree.

Re: Enchanted Rainforest WIP Acrylic & Gouache

Added more forest detail and "poured" the tree last night. Tried to make it look "mossy".

Cat took a flying leap on my shoulder and landed on really juicy tree. I managed to grab him before he darted across the painting. Now I have a black and white maine coone with 3 white paws and one green....sigh

I will be working on the tree next and building the ground around it.
