New to P&I - leaves and butterflies

Hi everyone - I bought a few drawing inks and a calligraphy pen, and have been doing a bit of experimenting. Comments and criticisms welcome, I'd love to know what you (honestly) think!

Thanks!

From what I can see I like them a lot, that red is very striking.

The subjects seem well observed and rendered. Your experimentation is paying off. I would like to see more.

Cheers

Hi Baffin ... a big welcome to the forum
You are off to a wonderful start with the pen. In fact I think you are a natural.
Love the red against the dark of the butterflies and your leaves are very well done. Especially the second one where you have really captured the shape of the leaves exceptionally well.
Keep up the good work and let's see more

Very nice study pieces Baffin. Try doing the leaves without doing the outlines of each leaf. Let the leaf lines make up the edges of the leaf. Those pen strokes in the direction that the leaf surface is growing will be seen as more natural. Keep On Creating !

Very nice start to pen & ink...hang around here long enough and keep at it and you will easily develop a style that works for you. To tag on to what Vince said, a lot of us draw out the image - at least to some degree - then erase once the ink is dry. That helps you avoid the outlining in ink.
