Re: WIP KT22 Fiber/Felting

Looking real good, Jen. Except, yeah, the pictures need some work. Perhaps, something more organic for the edges rather than rectangles?

Re: WIP KT22 Fiber/Felting

This is so fascinating to watch Jen. I echo the others and yourself on the photograph issue. Great to have them in but softer edges and more of a blend in needed. What a great project!

Re: WIP KT22 Fiber/Felting

Thanks all, you really confirm my sense. I'm at my sister's in Seattle at the moment, so won't make fresh progress until next week. But I am either going to pull them off, or, given your comment Debby about a more organic edge, even may try cutting in close to the image and fluffing / fringing, rather alone the chenille idea. And maybe it is a bust, and I just need to use the print on cloth technique for another project!

Re: WIP KT22 Fiber/Felting

Hi Jen,

I've got a similar dangly image project in mind, with an abstract Art Nouveau background, and small transferred images. My plan is to layer the images (maybe add to their size a little to make them a little more substantial), and then soften the angular edges of the transfers by felting various fibres around the image... make sense?

Re: WIP KT22 Fiber/Felting

Good Heavens, Esther, I missed your comment -- past a month ago. Your idea sounds GREAT. Any progress on it??

As for me, today I am jamming to complete this. But OOOOPS I left my reference photo at home. HURRAH for Wet Canvas, because here it is in my first post!

Photos later in the day... OK OK, maybe tomorrow.

Woohoo... almost done? Can't wait to see the photos!

As for mine, nope, no progress yet... too busy working on gifts and related seasonal things. But once January gets here, I'll get back to working on my "experiments"!

Re: WIP KT22 Fiber/Felting

Here are close ups of my latest work. I'm going to stretch it today on the frame, and then photograph the whole. Then I will be able to see it as intended, and know if it is really done.

I realize I could just keep embellishing. There isn't really that much. But it is in the realm of what I envisioned...and I have GOT to get something on that wall.

I've added a sprinkle of beads...

and embroidered pylons and chair lifts...

I still really like how the blue fabric beneath shows through the loose weave of the linen.

and gone for a variety of textures

Re: WIP KT22 Fiber/Felting

I need to get slightly smaller stretcher bars. I just staple gunned it onto the frame, and I think it needs to go to the edge. I had calculated it from the inside edge. I am feeling like a Bear of Little Brain, for those of you fond of Winner the Pooh.

Dear Pooh... Alida used to call him Withery Pooh, something I didn't discourage because it was just soooo cute!

Bummer about the stretcher bars. Sigh... guess we'll have to wait.
(Couldn't find twiddling thumbs.)

Re: WIP KT22 Fiber/Felting

OK Esther, just for you, a quick shot with the little camera, cropping to where the stretcher bars should be!

The shine of the printed fabric images makes them light, the detail is lost. I will hopefully get a better shot of this to post, as I will want it for my archive.

Re: WIP KT22 Fiber/Felting

I think you fixed the photo images. They look more integrated with the piece. Looks good.

Re: WIP KT22 Fiber/Felting

Thanks Jen! I agree with Debby... I especially like how you overlapped the scenery over the image i.e. the lift poles.

What a beautiful landscape it must be! I haven't been to the mountains since tree-planting back in my 20's, and although this flatlander felt just a little claustrophobic sometimes, the view when I stepped outside my tent in the mornings was breathtaking.
