Various bugs

The weather is nice this afternoon, lots of clouds to diffuse the sun. There are a couple of bugs that cooperate long enough for me to focus. C&C welcome.

Re: Various bugs

Amazing spotty eyes, and what a coating of pollen! What's the second one - those big pincers almost look ant-like?

Fabulous as always Sinh, like opening a door onto another world.

James.

Holy cow, how nice! Could you please post what equipment and settings you use to get these close-ups? DOF is really good for such macro shots.

Re: Various bugs

Thanks all for the comments. James, I have no idea what these bugs are. I'll have to start some research on these little critters and name them. Dave, I use the Canon EF-100mm macro lens with Kenko extension tubes. All shots are handheld, with MT-24EX twin macro flash. I have a 50D body. Normally, I use my MP-E65 Macro lens, but on this outing, I use the EF-100mm because I want to shoot some butterflies as well. The EF-100mm can focus to infinity, where as the MP-E65 have a maximum working distance about 4 inches, which scares the heck out of those butterflies.

Wow!! Amazing shots. The eyes on that first critter are really weird.I have never seen anything like them.

Thanks Sherry for the comment.
I think I still have to tone down the flash a little. It still seems harsh after looking at it.
