Re: Different Strokes: August 2009
I was determined to do one of these when I saw them and just realised that today is the 19th !!!! Where did August go?
If I am going to have something to show before the end of the month I had better make today a painting day - (thanks for giving me the excuse, folks).

Re: Different Strokes: August 2009
Hi all, well! what a challenge! not overly happy with my efforts thus far but will persevere this evening with wine in one hand and brush in the other! (watch out for the dipping brush into wine thingy).
Its been very thought provoking, painting this subject matter while hearing the news constantly and the massive loss of life our boys are suffering at the moment it feels more important to do the painting justice, if you know what I mean!
Looking forward to seeing everyones work very very soon!

Re: Different Strokes: August 2009
As it will soon be midnight and I won't have much time tomorrow, I'll start the ball rolling.
Like Laura, I have been really upset with recent events and the daily tally of deaths and injuries, so painting this was a way of saying that we appreciate what they do - can't begin to say what's owed for their sacrifice.
This is not a specific soldier, he represents any and all of the troops out there.
Thanks for thre refs Bell - it made me think (for one!).
Approx 7x5" on mountboard.

Re: Different Strokes: August 2009
It's 11:18 pm here, close enough to midnight. I won't get a chance to post tomorrow, so here's my very humble attempt. Laura, I know what you mean about doing these soldiers justice. I wish my painting had turned out better, but I gave it a shot. Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet, called The Soldier & the Sunflowers. Thanks for these ref's - this was quite a challenge.
And Maureen & EP - outstanding work, both of you.

I kept mine simple. 2.5x3.5" on posterboard.
Is it CC177 or CF177?

Re: Different Strokes: August 2009
I love your interpretation Maureen! very powerful!
EP yours is brilliant! And very brave taking on the planes!
Nan – I found it a challenge as well, especially the hands but you have done yours justice for sure!
Bonnie your colours are exquisite! Really nice work!
Lavender – your is amazing and my fav so far!
Heres mine on a canvas 60cm x 25cm, my leaves/flowers are a tad out of scale but I think I got away with it and the dreaded hands!
Im going to call it Sunflowers in Afganistan
Enjoyed this project very much, thanks,
Laura

Re: Different Strokes: August 2009
What a contrast in sizes - Michelle's so tiny and Laura's so big!
I like them both - very nice ..... and the flowers aren't out of proportion Laura - they make a nice frame
Good shape and colour Michelle.
