Sticky: Plant Parade: A forum project Sept. 09

This month the challenge is September Stripes!

Striped, streaked, or spotted flower petals and leaves have long been valued for their distinctive looks.

The most interesting include carnations or pinks, but there are orchids, lilies, tulips, amaryllis, roses, foxglove, peonies, and geraniums, etc.

Variegated examples are petunias, zinnias, mums, coleus, cannas and 4 o'clocks. Intriguing stripes are seen in tropical lily leaves, snake plants, wandering jew, hostas, and caladiums.

Here's just a sampling of my and reference image library photos or you may choose your own or even work from life, then render in any media.

Post uploads in this thread on 25 September.

Additional challenge: Add a striped vase, container, maybe even a cloth or fabric to your composition. Most of all HAVE FUN!

Please note your size used, medium, and support when uploading along with any other pertinent information, tips, tricks, or hints.

Wish I had time to do them all...but have started using an old world bouquet that has several of these in it.

Re: Sticky: Plant Parade: A forum project Sept. 09

How fortuitous! I just joined WetCanvas and just started on a bromeliad with striped leaves. I'm doing two different renditions, one graphite and one watercolor. They're both driving me crazy (not to mention that every time a leaf pricks my hand it itches like a mosquito bite) so this will give me even more incentive to finish. I'm looking forward to these challenges.

Hi CJC! Welcome to WetCanvas where the fun never ends. We're so glad you found this forum and the project should be interesting. I just checked out your website and it is very nice; love the spider on your home page. Can't wait to see your bromeliad! If you have questions just ask either PM (private message) or email.

As a new member I've been browsing the Forums and noticed this Florals Challenge of "stripes etc". I'm a keen flower painter so will love to have a try at this.
