Hi All,
Warmly welcome to the August Landscape Challenge! All Media and all skill
levels are welcome. The object is to have fun, practice and to share. You
have all month to do one, two, three or all Four of the photos. Do crop,
edit, and rearrange the images as you would like. Take parts of one and
add it to the other -- be creative. When you are finished with your
painting, please post it here in this thread.
See the great work in the
July thread
here.
All the pic's are shot recently by yours truly, and are from Sweden. Let's have fun!
We all like encouragement. So please take the time to comment ( or help if
asked ) on other artist's entries.
Join in the fun!

We get a chance to practice our greens again. To get good greens, we
often need to mix in other colours. To make sunshine-greens, we can add
yellows for the bright ones, and pinks for what is to be subdued. Shadow
greens look great with blues and purples mixed into them.
One added challenge would be to paint without using any ready made
greens. Or, you could use no green at all, making a personal interpretation.
The first picture made me think of Paula and her beautiful meadows. The
day was a bit windy, so the near flowers are out of focus (and pardon the
glare in lower left corner). This is a straightforward picture, with few
masses. The depth is considerable, but the camera has flattened it, so see
what you can do about it. The sky was blue, too.
The second pic has more things happening in it. This is your opportunity to
crop/move/change/edit at heart's content. For example you can try to
differentiate all the 'green stuff', zoom in on the building, or take out the
building.
In the third picture, there is water and sky, for variety, and a single tree.
For example, you may not want to include the dark leaves top left, or you
may want to change the shapes of them.
Tired of all that green? Here is the fourth picture that gives a relief from
green. Another street in the Old Town of Stockholm, and it is sloping down
towards the background distance. There is no need to keep all the figures
in, so remove them, or keep a few, or put it new things like cars. Maybe
you find a detail to zoom in on. The buildings are in shadow, and they are
lit by reflected light from across the street.
Have fun!
