my first post

Hi everybody,

I'm a little bit nervous to tell the truth, but that can't be helped.
So here we go...
The first one is from a photo. "Rhinefall", Oil on canvas, 32" x 24", I just loved the scene with the two rocks and the roaring water, I guess.

I'm not quite sure if the second one even belongs in this forum, it's a little fantasy-esque, maybe.
"The abandoned Throne", Oil on canvas, 32" x 24", it's part of a series of fictional landscapes and I kept the colors down because the one before that was pretty colorful so I wanted to try the other direction.

please c+c,

thanks for your interest,

stefanp

Re: my first post

Both well done - like the last for the implied "The Last King" gambit, and the first for how ye had the darker for the background and the lighter green on top of the rocks, making them stand out so well... myself, would had put more color in the waves, but without seeing the photo, have to say this is just a personal view... to both...

[and great rock molding, too]

Re: my first post

Welcome! Very nice work!

I agree with Robert about the water in the first one, but that may be just due to the shot/compression for posting here and it lost the detail. The Lost Throne is nice but really too subdued for me, I'd like more color there.

Re: my first post

Thank you for your thoughts.
And you are right, the waves really are just white in the photo.
When I paint from photos I tend to paint the picture as closely to the original as possible instead of making adjustments in order to make a better painting.
Yeah, that's really something I need to be more careful about.

Thanks again,

Stefan

Re: my first post

I agree, a little more color in the waves. The second one really is very appealing to me in the monochromatic look of it goes so well. It looks like something from a storybook.

Re: my first post

I love both of these. Enough's been said about the water, so I'll comment on the wonderful color in the first one. Both of these could be story illustrations, although I'd lose the railing and flag/sign on the top one. I really love tonal work, so the second one strikes a real responsive chord with me. No reason for you to be nervous, with work like this. Very nice!

Re: my first post

Cool paintings!

The second reminds of the ancient throne of seeing on Amon Hen in the Lord of the Rings, where one could sit and see events for hundreds of mile away...

Re: my first post

Welcome to the forum Stefanp. Nice work on both paintings, but the second on really talks to me. I just love the mystery of the stairs and what looks like a huge old oak tree. I could look and wonder about this painting for a long time. Very nice....Lenore
