Question Printmaking Installations

Have just been reading a new Printmaking book by Alexia Tala - Installations and Experimental Printmaking.

Who in this forum, has actually made an installation? What was it? Also, how did you go about exhibiting the work. Must admit, taking the print off the wall seems to be a huge task, but at the same time presents the Printmaker with another perspective to explore and express.

Re: Printmaking Installations

Someone in our print group did an enormous tree...it was still on the wall, but went from floor to ceiling (20') with individual printed leaves and bark pieces, and leaves falling to the floor, part of a show entitled Trees. It really gave you the feeling of being in the forest. This would qualify as an installation.

Another one I saw was themed on personal (disturbing) memories, and the printmaker had placed prints in the drawers and behind cupboard doors, hidden memories that you could see by opening the drawers. It worked for the subject, but in this case was a little too much information.

Re: Printmaking Installations -- Here is my most recent one.

I made this for an exhibition in Sweden. It is called Aran. It was a lot of hard work. I used etching collagraph and inkjet on cotton as well as sewing and knitted textiles.

Here is a detail also

The whole piece is 8ft by 6 ft

and the floor area comes out from the wall about 4 ft.

The loaves of bread are REAL --they have been dried and sealed with yacht varnish.

You can see more about the piece on my recently created website

Re: Printmaking Installations

Ainesse,

Your work is truly inspirational. Thank you so much for showing it here on WetCanvas.

Was just recently in the UK and it seems that over there, Printmakers really go for it. I like that.

Regards

Newday.
