My very first Watercolor

Hi Y'all.
About two years ago I purchased a box of watercolors by mistake (I was looking for acrylics and didn't read the label). I had no idea what I was doing, but experimented with it and this what came out. It was done on paper canvas or "canvasette", with el-cheepo watercolors.

I would appreciate your comments.

Nice work on your first watercolor. I would like to see the building a little darker to stand out from the background.

JC, your composition is fine! I don't know what part of the building the big chunk in the foreground is, but I think mysterious things like this very often add to picture.
What I miss is light: shading on the tower to make it round and also leaving some of the white of the paper.

If you do a second version of this, JC, in addition to shading on the tower to indicate roundness and the light source, the water needs some darks and highlights to indicate movement. You might also want to blend the sky from darker at the top to the lightest at the horizon... All in all, for a first wc, you did really well... I would like to see what you would do with this same scene now....

Very nice first watercolour - I agree with the suggestions, but it is still a good beginning If you continue with watercolour I think you will get more satisfaction if you spring for half a dozen basic colours of artist quality paint from Winsor and Newton or Holbein.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I will redo this piece soon now that a know a little more than I did two years ago.
Soon I will be upgrading from Student to Artist watercolors. I will post the new version as soon as it is available.

Pampe, I'm already addicted.
