I've just read my notes on proofing the press.
That green foam is made with a memory so if it gets indents on it, it will return to it's flat shape
Proof with general pressure
Pressure is harder to get the middle of the plate (we were using a large press hence the 2 sets of runners). A press roller can get out of shape in the middle when a lot of small plates (big press in a studio situation) are put through without using runners. The sides of the top roller need the support of runners.
Pack under the plate with strips of tissue - make a little pyramid where more pressure is needed - higher one side than the other - torn strips with jaggered edges. Some narrow, some wider - get a gentle rise in the middle. Press pressure is 600lbs?
Keep putting the same proof through till you get it right
Do all your pressure adjustments with the plate in the centre of the roller.
This might be helpful to some members if they are getting a print with uneven inking. Sorry if I've put this in the wrong thread - it goes with the photos I posted here previously and corrects some erroneous comments I posted regarding packing the runners.
