Can you print straight onto tracing paper?

Once you've created a line drawing using whatever computer software of your choosing, is it possible to print straight onto tracing paper or something equivalent?

Also does anyone have any recommendations for printers?

Thanks

Re: Can you print straight onto tracing paper?

Are you going to use an Inkjet or a Laser printer.

The 'type' of tracing paper you use may have a 'non-absorbent' surface. In which case the inkjet may not print permanently on to its surface. On the other hand if you put it through a laser. The heating element that is used to 'fuse' the powder ink to the surface may work. BUT it might also damage the unit if the paper 'crinkles-up' due to the heat.

A 'Hard' paper may well work in the laser.

Why dont you print on to a white sheet of 'ordinary' printer paper and then trace from that?

Hope this helps

It will probably be an inkjet so maybe thats a 'no' then.

Will more than likely do as suggested and print onto white paper and trace from that. Just wasn't sure if it was possible to bypass that stage is all.

Thanks for the speedy reply

Yes you can, I just printed a sketch as a handout for my students.

I used A4 sheets from a tracing paper pad.

Doug

What were you printing on, Doug?

I know that here in my office I have 8 printers & while I wouldnt let tracing paper (or vellum) get anywhere NEAR 7 of them, I do have 1 large B&W laser machine that does just fine with it - it even has a setting for tracing paper so you can print normal or reverse (mirror).

I used my Canon MP600R inkjet and printed a sketch of a prison door suitable for transfer onto paper to practice painting bricks, wood grain and rust.

Re: Can you print straight onto tracing paper?

Thanks Yorky.

That will help 'Puppa'.

I just did a quick test print on some drafting tracing paper and the ink from my Epson just smudged off! The solution is probably to buy proper 'Art' tracing paper and not try and use grease-proof paper types.

Hmm mine was noting special, but was certainly not greaseproof. It was a pad from Partners(Rymans).

Doug

I think that may be the answer.

Re: Can you print straight onto tracing paper?

Thanks everyone, it sounds like it is possible afterall. I went into our local art shop yesterday and they said that there is special tracing paper for printers, he didn't say what though lol, but I may just try Rymans.
