Pastel strokes June 2009

Welcome to Pastel Strokes June 2009!
It's nice to host the Strokes for this month, and given the time of year I've found some summer photo's to share with you.

Those who have participated in previous months already know the guidelines. For all newbies to this monthly challenge, they are as follows:

* An individual volunteering to host the monthly project proposes to a guide or a moderator a new photo reference near the beginning of the month. (We need hosts for the coming months, if you'd like to host let us know!)

* The guide or moderator approves the host and reference photo(s) and the selected host posts the project in Pastel Talk and also a thread in the Soft Pastel Studio with a link to the Pastel Talk project.

* Interested participants create a painting from the photo(s) and upload it to this thread for viewing and discussion.

* The image may be cropped, rearranged, and interpreted in any manner! Use different effects in your software program and try painting something different, tweak the color, add or subtract things.

* You may paint as many versions and as many photos as you like, and they may be any size.

Most of all, let's have fun painting!

Here's a link to high res pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2111666...7619089848964/

All photo's are taken by me, and are free for you to use.

Beautiful pics Merethe. Is that a Norwegian Elkhound? We had one when I was married. He was beautiful and we named him Loki. He died just a short time ago of cancer. He ended up going to a wonderful home where the lady took great care of him and our lab. My relatives come from Tenevol? Not sure if that is spelled right. I know it is in Northern Norway. Their name got changed to Tenvold when they came to the US in the early 1800's. We still have cousins there though. I love your pic with the mountains in the background. My sister lives in Oslo and I know she has a beautiful view of a lake and mountains behind it from a window in her flat. I may have to try some of these pics. i haven't done the pastel strokes yet. Thanks for hosting it and providing such wonderful pics.

Re: Pastel strokes June 2009

Thank you all, I hope the photo's can inspire some painting too....

Sara - Memphis is an American Akita, but she does have some similar features to the elkhound - she's bigger though. And very friendly.
How fun to meet someone with Norwegian relatives, Tennevoll isn't too far from us, a couple of hours drive. Many Norwegians have American relatives after the emigration during the 1800's. We do to, it's nice to stay in touch with our family "over there". I hope to see a painting or two from you...

Re: Pastel strokes June 2009

Hi Ruthie, you post your painting as soon as it is finished. No need to wait. This thread will be up a whole month, so you can paint as many as you want and have time for, and post whenever during the month.

Merethe, yummie pictures, they are very tempting!

Hei Merethe, dette var et fint utvalg av bilder. Morsomt å treffe på en nordmann her.

To the rest - i was just telling Merethe that it was great to meat a fellow Norwegian here at WC.

It's strange how small the world could be, i had an uncle that lived i Harstad.

Re: Pastel strokes June 2009

Thanks all, I'm glad you like the photo's! I know it is summer, and probably many things going on besides painting, but I hope you'll find time to so a little painting.

Ruthie - the strokes runs one month, but have fun painting even if you can't find time to post this month.

Pete - great, can't wait to see what you do!

Charlie - tempting enough to push some dust around...?

Arnt - hei, nice to see a fellow Norwegian here, there aren't many of us! The internet certainly has made the world a little smaller.....do you paint in pastels?

Will push dust, the midnight sun is speaking to me!

... when printer and computer deigns to shake hands and let bygones be bygones, and cooperate to print out the photo.

Machines should *work*!

Re: Pastel strokes June 2009

Well, I've done one already! Yesterday was an art day and, rather than work on my current pastel project, I took a break and did the challenge boat instead because the photo really inspired me. I have altered the colour saturation a bit. Hope you all like it.
