Japanese Iris...

I planted one Japanese Iris in a small fish pond, about 2' by 3', and now it is one solid iris planter, they are quite pretty...

Re: Japanese Iris...

Beautiful colour and excellent detail. Good FOV as well!

Just a pity that the front petal hadn't coiled into view, it would have been good to see the contrasting yellow with the rich purple.

Re: Japanese Iris...

Thanks! There are only 3 petals with yellow, the front center petal is one of 3 that stick up, but they don't have that yellow streak on then.....Japanese Iris are more flattened than regular iris....A petals have the yellow pollen producer, B petals are smaller and plain, and C are like tongues...Three layers....

Re: Japanese Iris...

Wow Natalie, that is an interesting looking iris, I had not heard of it before. You said that you planted it in a fish pond ... does this mean it has its roots in water or that the pond no longer houses fish?
I do like the composition of the 1st shot as well as the hint of another flower in the background.

Re: Japanese Iris...

Nice color and composition on this one, Natalie, but there are two very green leaves, blurred somewhat yes, but seem to be springing from the petals of the flowers.

Re: Japanese Iris...

Thanks, guys....and Wendy, yes, this was bought at a fish pond supply store, it is a corm stuck in a pot of stones to hold it down and stuck into water....no soil, and it multiplied til it filled the plastic fish pond completely, no fish, some frogs live in there, no soil, I just fill it with water when the rains don't....

Re: Japanese Iris...

It sounds delightful I wish I had some frogs around ... there used to be a pond here (before I moved in) but it has long since been filled in with rocks and soil and some weeds grow rather well in it lol.
