Thanks for the advice!
Just wanted to tell all you who contributed to my last post "New Member" that I took your advice and used heavier paper and really tried to make my clouds softer and tried to stay away from using grahite to do my shading. I did a little more planning as far as layout and really focused on taking my time. I have a difficulty when I get close to finishing a picture, I tend to hurry, so I can be done and move on to the next one. I still think there are some areas I want to improve, but all in all I think it turned out well. Thanks again for the wonderful insight. Feel free to comment, it would be interesting to hear what you all have to say.
Thanks again!

Cool picture! I love the Defiant. Along with the Avro Anson, one of the less remembered planes of the early part of the war.

Thanks Neil,
I am surprised that so many people know what the Defiant is. For a long time I thought it was a modified hurricane.

Very nice job....planes are not my choice for artwork, but you have really put in a lot of detail on the plane, and you have depicted the movement of the propellers well. I like the background, too...nice work on the clouds.

I think you've done a wonderful job on your planes and the translucent clouds below. You've done well pushing your darks also. Perhaps a greyscale might show you where you can improve with your overall values. IMHO!

Thanks! Good idea on the greyscale, I will have to try that.

Re: Thanks for the advice!
Your planes are brilliant. The only suggestion I would make is to tone down the dark smoke coming from the injured plane as it is dominating the foreground plane, where the focus needs to be. The closer object will have the darkest darks and the lightest lights usually.

Re: Thanks for the advice!
Fantastic composition and great movement. The planes are very well rendered. I would also agree with ReineBlanche2 that the smoke needs to be toned down, I find my eye getting pulled there everytime I look at it. Also, the dark leading edges of the billowing smoke (esp. right behind the plane) might look a little more realistic if they blended backward a little more.
I'd love to see more!

Re: Thanks for the advice!
My father would love this!
It is brilliant.
I hesitate to say I agree about the smoke, it was the first thing that drew my eye, so maybe follow the above suggestions?
But all round a wonderful work of art.

Re: Thanks for the advice!
I agree that the smoke needs to be toned down a bit, perhaps with cooler blues and purples to have it fade into the background.
The detail and the planes are fantastic. Very well done!
