Acrylic Rose

I am posting an acrylic rose that I have been painting. X-posted from the Acrylic thread. I am posting the WIP over there in the following thread:

http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=541067

This is the first real attemp at acrylics. It's not done yet, so I will post the final when finished. C&C welcome. Thanks for looking

Re: Acrylic Rose

This is absolutely stunning. Not only is it beautifully painted, but I love the way you have cropped the image. Great choice of background color as well.

This is lovely so far, you seem to be handling the acrylics great. Looking forward to the finish.

Re: Acrylic Rose

The more I see this Scott, the more I like it!

I'm even beginning to like the slant to the right - which I commented on in acrylics!!!

Sometimes we just have to look a few times!

Glad you x-posted it

Re: Acrylic Rose

Thank you all for the lovely comments. I have been fighting a cold the last few days, so I haven't really felt like painting too much. But I am back at it a bit tonight

Re: Acrylic Rose

You really have the most beautiful blending in this Scott - would you like to share your method? (and I know you say you're new to the medium!!)

Re: Acrylic Rose

Hi Maureen, thank you for the compliment. I am not sure how to really explain my method, or if I even really have one I guess I have been approaching acrylics similarly to my colored pencil work. I use layers and try to keep the colors close in value so that they transition slowly from light to dark. I unfortunately don't tend to work in a lose style, in any of my works (whether acrylic or pencil, or something else) so I like to make things appear to have a natural transition due to how tight I tend to paint and draw
