Arrow The Floral Forum Open Exhibition 2008.

Open Exhibition, 2008

Members are invited to post ONE piece of their own floral art, previously shown in this forum during 2008.

You may choose a piece because you like it, it's your favourite, you learned a lot from it, it's a first in a new medium, you feel it's a milestone in your artistic development, or any other reason!

Your entry can be in any medium.

Please give relevant information about the piece (size, medium) and also a little description about your reasons for choosing it: please also add a link to the original thread so that others may comment there.

To avoid this thread getting too long, please do not comment here on any other piece.

Let the show begin!

Bee Balm / Minardia Flower

Reference: Photo taken by Ona, a WC! member. Permission given to use it.
Paper: Arches 140 lb. coldpressed
Size: 11" x 14"
Watercolor Paints: Artist Grade by Rembrandt; WN; Daler-Rowney; Holbein; MGraham; and Sennelier

This was one of the most complex flowers I've ever painted. I enjoyed the challenge of painting it and trying to convey it's architecture. I also liked using negative painting to bring out the foliage behind the flower.

You can see the original thread here. Comments and critique are invited for use in future paintings.

Sylvia

This flower was done last June for the forum. I believe it's a Hostos plant. Had fun painting it. Lil

Re: The Floral Forum Open Exhibition 2008.

In searching, I realised I'd done nothing floral outside of the Plant Projects this year.
This was from the June project, 'Handling Greens' and was quite testing!

Acrylics, 7" x 9".

The thread is
here and post #44.

Re: The Floral Forum Open Exhibition 2008.

I'm posting this freesia posy as this is the first piece using coloured pencil that I feel happy with. The freesias were growing in my garden and had to be painted. I started them in acrylic but somehow just couldn't get it right (still have the unfinished painting and maybe will finish it one day).

Re: The Floral Forum Open Exhibition 2008.

I am entering my yellow project from last year. I think it gave me a better understand of how to mix the yellow colors.

Re: The Floral Forum Open Exhibition 2008.

This was a piece I did on "Using Yellows" to challenge myself.
I liked the strong contrast with the soft yellows in this composition.
Hope you like it too!!!!
