Anyone have the Icarus Drawing Board?

Hi,
Has anyone here purchased an Icarus Drawing Board, and if so, did they get the large or small one? I am seriously considering getting one, but would like some feedback from an artist who invested in one.
Thanks, in advance, for sharing your opinion.

Char, I googled it b/c I hadn't heard of it either. It's a portable electric drawing board that has a warm side for blending which melts/softens the pigment as you draw, and a cool side for conventional use.

Re: Anyone have the Icarus Drawing Board?

I've been curious about it, but I'm not terribly fired up to get one.
First off, it's a bit too $$$ for a single-purpose object.
2nd, I can't really see how it would be useful for any work I do on drafting film (drafting film can be molded & shaped when it's warm), and since that's the support I use the most for my Celtic work, it doesn't make much sense for me.
3rd, Where would I keep the thing? I've already run out of good places for storing sheets of paper & matboard & finished works.

Just my 2 bits.

Re: Anyone have the Icarus Drawing Board?

I heard from a couple of people on another forum who used it and liked it. It is very pricey, but is supposed to work withh all waxed based media. It isn't appropriate for everyone. I just wanted to check around and see if anyone here has one, for their feedback. Esther Roi does gorgeous drawings with it. You can do a google search for Icarus Drawing Board and check it out.

Re: Anyone have the Icarus Drawing Board?

Based on the descriptions of the Icarus board from a few months back, I'm going to be trying a plain old heating pad under my masonite drawing board.

Kimbas, as you're doing the same thing, would you be willing to post some results so we can have a look-see, maybe share a few descriptions on what it's like to work with a heated surface?

I have seen a demo on this and thought it looked way to expensive and way too gimmicky. Wanda

That's kind of my feeling, too. Unless you do the bulk of your work this way, it doesn't seem worth the investment. Especially when you can achieve the same effect other ways when you want to.
