How do I make navy blue?

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone here can help me. I'm working on a custom order for someone who wants a navy blue as one of the colors. I tried the darkest moretti blue but that wasn't dark enough for her.

Yesterday I tried mixing 2" of the dark lapis blue with 1/2" of black and pulled stringer. It looks as black as black.

Then I tried mixing 2" of the dark lapis blue with 1/4" of black and pulled stringer and it looks every bit as blue as the blue.

Is there a simpler way to get navy than fine tuning the amount of black to mere fractions of an inch? I was thinking of mixing the blue with dark silver plum, but then thought I would check here first before I waste any more time and see if anybody here has achieved a nice navy blue color already.

Hugs,

Debby

Re: How do I make navy blue?

Thanks, Katherine and Sharon!

The blue rose, is that Moretti? Is that opague? What's the color #?

Sharon, really? Gosh, I just need a small amount, a half rod would be plenty. Can I buy it from you plus pay for shipping?

Thanks!

Debby

Re: How do I make navy blue?

Hmmm.... just had a thought.

Since I'm ultimately etching the beads I make for this customer, maybe I could encase black with transparent cobalt blue and use the stringer that way? She wanted solid, but maybe it would look solid when etched.

Hugs,

Debby

Re: How do I make navy blue?

The blue rose is moretti, I believe, and it is a pastel so it is opaque..

Re: How do I make navy blue?

Thanks, Katherine!

I looked that up on ABR's site, and it looks like a much lighter color than I want. Does it strike to a darker color?

Re: How do I make navy blue?

Debby what about a very thin linear encasing of regular NOT dense black over the medium cobalt. The regular black is a transparent and it will deepen other colors but not turn them black. It makes periwinkle a deep purple.
Or even ink blue encasing if black is too dark.
We will want to see the final product!
Good luck
Sam

Re: How do I make navy blue?

I Debby, you might try this. I think you can add green to your lapis and end up with an opaque navyish clolr. Petroleum Green with a one to one ratio with lapis. I end up with Navy streaks in some green stringer I was making. Here's the color mixing chart link I found somewhere on this site I think.
