Prismacolor Lightfast Discontinued?

At my CPSA chapter meeting last weekend, someone said that Prismacolor is discontinuing the Lightfast line due to lack of sales. Has anyone else heard this?

I know my local art store sold them out at 40% off a few months ago and told me that they just didn't sell.

Re: Prismacolor Lightfast Discontinued?

hmmm... I haven't heard it, but can't say I'm surprised.
Personally, I was really disappointed in the Prisma lightfast line. Too many of the blues had "grit" to them & the rest didn't seem to layer nearly as well as the regular prismas. And I really really wanted to like them.

Has anyone sent an email to the company asking if the rumor is true?

Ah, but you can get Derwent coloursofts can't you? Comparable to Prismas IMHO.

Re: Prismacolor Lightfast Discontinued?

I'm pretty sure I can find a corresponding hue for each & every Prismacolor, using HarvestMoon's fantastic
http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=517971
(Colored Pencil Color Charts (all brands)), but still... I don't have Prismas in my collection! That's awful, isn't it?

Prisma's are very often available on bargain prices at places like ebay. You can also get them from Ann Kullbergs site. They don't sell em in Holland and yet I use em.
So does Judy, I believe.

The answer is yes. I contacted Sanford and this is the reply I recieved back:

Quote:
Thank you for reaching out to us and for your support of Sanford products. Unfortunately, our Prismacolor® Thick Lead Art Pencil (Lightfast) are no longer available and there is no exact replacement at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Yep, I do. Thanks to some *dear* friends in the US who keep me supplied and a US trip I took long ago.

Re: Prismacolor Lightfast Discontinued?

Hi everyone,

I had to check with Sanford again, because Kristy Kutch said she heard opposite of what I did, from her Sanford rep.

So, I sent another email this morning and this is the reply I got back.

Quote:

I have received your reply in regards to the Prisma Color Lightfast pencils.
Please note they will not be discontinuing these, what will happen in 2010, the lightfast pencils will not be available to be purchased in the cases they are in now.
They will be available in all 36 colors, but will be with the Prisma Color Premier pencils.
I hope this clears things for you, and please don't hesitate to contact me, if I can be of any further assistance.

lol. Why didn't they just say that to start with? Geeze. I did have a few more questions for her, just to clairfy. When I hear from them again I'll let you know.

At least I feel a little better now.

Tj

Well that makes a world of sense! I've thought it really really odd that they developed a separate line for *lightfast*, and didn't just incorporate 'em into the regular prisma line to begin with. Would've saved a *ton* of confusion.

Thanks for the updated info!

Re: Prismacolor Lightfast Discontinued?

I imagine with the new way, they can then just upgrade others to higher lightfastness and not keep anything else differed...
