Open Forum Paint Out #7: CLICK MEEEE!

MY IMAGE(S):

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Title: Open Forum Paint Out #7: CLICK MEEEE!
Year Created:
Medium: Photograph
Surface: Paper
Dimension: Unlimited
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!

MY COMMENTS:
We all learn a lot by looking at and critiquing paintings. What if a bunch of us do the same subject? The extra learning comes as we can see the different artistic interpretations of the same subject.

So...here's OPEN FORUM PAINT OUT #7. You've got two weeks to paint and post the displayed reference(s). Close date is Feb. 22

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
Use any medium, any size. Post any time with your explanations.

This reference is a colorful street-scape from Chinatown, NYC. I note that the aspect ratio is two to one so, for instance, a 12x24 canvas fits it perfectly. I also suggest that the rendering could be with full detail or greatly simplified.

And for detail hounds, if you want a high resolution image of the reference, email me:
[email protected]

GET OUT THOSE BRUSHES, AND PENCILS, AND PASTELS, AND SO ON.

I think your interpretation is terrific (although not as good as the dog!)
I'm working on a 12x24 oil and the more I live with this reference, the more I see it as an aceo. It can be enormously simplified and still have punch.

This sounds like a fun idea. Would there be copyright issues after the painting is done or are we free to make it available for sale?

It's an original photo from TG Sloth. I hereby grant all and sundry the right to use said photo as a paint reference and sell the heck out of the result.

Re: Open Forum Paint Out #7: CLICK MEEEE!

When I took the reference photo, I annoyed my wife by standing in the street trying to get a yellow cab between the two red trucks. Without annoying other cars showing up in the picture. After about 15 minutes, she was trying to get her lawyer on the cell phone so I settled for the apended photo. I had only a pocket camera which lacked the electronic oomph to shoot a fast series of images so I couldn't nail the position of the cab. Enter art! I've been able to advance the position of the cab to where I hoped it would be in the photo. I suppose you could do this in photoshop but it's so much easier to paint.

Bob, I see a very nice painting in great style! My only surggestion is to paint the yellowcab (he is to heavy yellow) in the same style like the rest and checking the wheels, cupboards. Your buildings and trucks are great painted!

These are great - I would have to say that Kathleen's set the bar for most creative interpretation!

acylic on canvas, 8X10"

Well it ain't pretty, but it was a miracle I did this much. This is a lot harder than it looks. Thanks tg for the challenges, how about something easier, like a tree or a lake...just kidding. Keep challenging us, how else will we learn?
