Display Systems and Canopy for Arts Festival
Hello all,
I will be TRYING to get into a small, local arts festival here in Pensacola. This is the first arts show I've ever tried to enter so I am full of questions. The two most pressing at the moment are:
1) What kind of display system do you use, or would you recommend? I have been looking at the Display Mate from Walker Systems, but it is insanely pricey (~$1,400). I really think I could build a similar system for much less money, but I'm not sure what to use for the panels that will hold the framed artwork. Any suggestions? Or maybe a cheaper display system?
AND
2) Any recommendations on a tent to put over my exhibit? The booth dimensions are 10'x10'...pretty standard, it seems. I need a tent that will fit these dimensions and keep me (and my artwork) cool in the hot Florida sun at Springtime.
Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Eric

You could build your own screens for hanging paintings with pvc for frame &
chicken wire etc . Covered would look nicer. Use curtain hooks for hangers.
There are ready made screens but they are expensive . " Sam's" has an easy up for just a little more then $100.00. This way you don't have to spend so much money at one time to get started.
Good luck,

Yep, this is what I did and it worked out fairly well. PVC tubing for four panels that I hook together on site with those plastic zip ties. I have a black cloth sheath that slides over the frame (prior to tying together) and a mesh grid is underneath. I also have an option of hanging a metal piece over the top edge for hanging larger works on as well. I've only used this arrangement a couple of times but it worked well.
Regards,
Dale

Re: Display Systems and Canopy for Arts Festival
After spending lots of time, energy and $$ building (and hauling and storing...) my own display "systems", I finally bit the bullet and bought a set of knock-down Pro-Panels
http://www.propanels.com/products/knock_downs.htm
I used to need a small truck or trailer to haul around my artwork and display - now everything fits into the back of my car (with the seats down)
And since ProPanels have been popular with artists for a long time, I've been able to combine resources with other artists when we show togeather.

Grids are also popular, such as: http://www.triodisplay.com/catalog/g...03e1a8e2f2 77
Costco also has ezup tents for about $200

A good, cheap set-up.....an EZ-Up tent and plastic chicken wire.....total investment, about $150. Made my money back by selling 3 prints!!!

Do you mean the thinnish black netting that comes in rolls - here they call it deer netting? (I'd never have thought of it... would think it would be too flimsy? Portability would be great, though. Or is this something else?)
I've made PVC frames, too, but used zip ties to attach PVC lattice panels. I got the kind with 1" holes, and had the panels cut into 2'x8' sections. Then I use zip ties to attach three panels together, making a 6'x8' display space. It makes it easier to move them around, and fit them into my little Volvo station wagon. I use picture molding hangers to hang the paintings.
I don't often do shows or festivals, and investing in pro panels didn't really make sense for me. I also used to use these panels for my Open Studios, to set up outside displays. I was living on a ranch with white lattice in abundance around the house, so the lattice panels fit right in.
Wishing you good luck with your setup,
Karen

PVC lattice panels are in my plans. I was just checking out the prices at Lowe's online and was surprised at the low price in comparison to some of the other options.
