Lightbulb The Plant Parade: January 2009

Plant Parade: A forum project.

The idea this month is to use Claude Monet as your muse.
To accomplish this try:

a) painting in his style.
b) using a colour palette he used.
c) or paint a plant or flower you would find in his gardens in Giverny, France.
d) or try all three of these things in one work!

Of course, many of us immediately think of Monet's waterlillies when we hear his name. However, he did do many other floral works that may inspire you, as well.

Below are links to definitions and works of Claude Monet- they are websites with examples of his paintings and some information about him as a painter.

http://www.intermonet.com/oeuvre/nymphea1.htm

http://www.intermonet.com/oeuvre/bouquets.htm

http://www.intermonet.com/oeuvre/bassin.htm

http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/monet/

http://giverny-impression.com/category/flower/

You may, of course, also use any other source of information about the painter!

Your work may be in any medium, you just have to try to create some of the characteristics you find in his work!

We will have one ‘reveal’ date, 25th of the month - please, no uploading before then, we’d like to see your work uninfluenced by anyone else’s!

The object is to have fun and perhaps create a piece of art you may not have thought of doing before!

Here are a few suggestions for references:

Pink Poppies - from Gypsytoo

Geraniums - from Deb Leger

Wild Rose - from boop934

Nasturtiums - from Vschafer

Delphiniums - from mustcreate

Waterlilly - from Yabby

Waterlilly Leaves - from Granny R

But, do feel free to use other reference materials of these or any other flowers that would be found in Monet's gardens.

Have fun creating!!!!

This is great Lori - thank you!

I do hope people are feeling in the mood to create beauty again now the New Year has started - we need to put all the awful things to one side for a little while!

Re: The Plant Parade: January 2009

Yes, I know a lot of artists will be completely spent after the holiday mania...but I do hope a few are up to the challenge and have a creative moment or two this month.

Plus, I have an alterior motive, I have to get some florals done as I have a show and a seasonal engagment at a local tearoom this summer....and these dates will creep up on me sooner than I think. LOL. So hopefully hosting this month will inspire me to create something, too!!

I didn't think you were allowed to use Photographers threads. Permission is required.

Marilyn that thread came from this forum. Permission has already been given. But as the link is not appropriate for the challenge, the post has been deleted.

Also Marilyn, Macdragon has already given permission for us to use his photographs from this thread - even though they are not for this project.

I'm sorry if I did something that wasn't appropriate, macdragon has given permission to use his photos as he has many water lily's that I thought would work. Sorry again didn't mean to confuse everyone

Oh Lori, this one is right down my alley. Having had no formal training, I learn so much when we paint like the masters. It gives me a good opportunity to study them. Thanks for doing this!

I have picked out a couple things to try, in case I'm in over my head!

Re: The Plant Parade: January 2009

Well....I think mine is done (I'm going to leave it for a few days and decide it it needs more paint). Well, I did say I was hoping to get some work accomplished for a summer engagement I have....so it's lookin' like I might even get a couple pieces done!!! Woohoo!!!

great Lori, love Monet, he's my (tor-)mentor, ie I'd love to paint like him and it torments the sanity out of me trying. Have to have a bash at this, thanks for it...

Hi, Will try this challenge since I love Monet's work. I have done some of his paintings (copies) as reference and to learn from him. Lil

Re: The Plant Parade: January 2009

I hope I am not too late - I would love to take part in this as Monet is one of my favourites.

What do we do when 25th arrives - post here or in a new thread? (Not sure)
