Loon drawing

I don't usually post in this area -- I'm very new at this and usually stick to the weekly challenges or the classroom. Attached is a drawing of a 'common loon' that I've been working on -- would appreciate C&C, suggestions. I've left the foreground and background simple to avoid distracting from the subject -- but would appreciate any suggestions. Originally I started this in pen and ink but thought it looked to flat -- so, re-started in graphite to work on my lights and darks. 8x10 in, mechanical pencils, 2B, HB, not sure of the paper but is a very light buff.

Attached link to reference.

Thanks

Re: Loon drawing

It's a beautiful drawing! I don't think there's anything I'd change about it. It's wonderfully done.

Re: Loon drawing

Hi Nancy. This is very nice. One thing I would suggest is to darken and define the edge of the loon and the water more.

Re: Loon drawing

April, Kenny, Jenna

Thank you all for your encouraging comments, they are appreciated.

Ken, also, thanks for the encouragement. Good idea, earlier I had the reflection darker and lightened the entire area but I like the idea of taking it darker just at the water line.

Nancy
