Where to find Bulk Mapp in Atlanta?

Ok - I got the hot head torch today, and got a hose adapter to hook it up to a propane/mapp bulk tank. The question now is where do I find bulk mapp tanks? Anyone use this in the Atlanta area? I read on the archives someone used propylene - would this be an alternative?

getting rolling now...

Renee Taylor

p.s. - I did get two 1lb disposables of Mapp gas at home depot to tide me over....

Almost forgot - how do I know if the hose fittings on the adapter are Mapp compatible?

Check phone book for "welding gas" suppliers....

Propane type hoses should be ok for MAPP gas applications... At least I have not heard anybody say you can NOT use a propane type hose with MAPP gas.

Propane fittings work fine. According to my local propane store they are OK for MAPP & propylene & the propane store carried the fittings needed. The ISGB forum archives have lots of info on this subject if you need to do more research.

I work with Propylene and a Hot head torch with a propane hose. I rent a 26 lb. tank from a welding supply place in town. It runs me $4 a month and the gas runs me about $50 each time I get a new tank. Just make sure the fittings are TIGHT!!! The 1st time I used it we thought it was on tight and everything was going good until the thing flared up on me!! Scared me half to death!! My torch was on fire from where it was attached all the way up the torch! I now make sure everything is tight, tight, tight whenever I have to change tanks!

Hi Renee,
I used to use, and still have what I think is a 7 pound tank that Holax had me buy and they would just exchange it for a full one ..they are on Northside Drive... in town..phone number..404 524 8242. The guys are nice and one knows a little about beadmaking. I believe they can also tell you about Atlanta Gas company putting MAPP in a barbecue tank..email me if you have any more questions...

RE: MAPP

Try calling 1 800 BOC GASE(S). They will work with you until you find a supplier. You make out better by buying the tank. Hugs Karen
