Weekly OP Sketch Thread Nov 10-16

This sketch thread is open to all Oil Pastelists. You are invited to share any sketching you've been doing this week, be it detailed ones, quick ones, ideas for paintings or value studies. Basically, just show us what you're working on! There is NO time limit, so knock yourselves out!

It would be great if you could share with us the paper and pastels you are using, as well as the size of your sketch. We do love the details!

Have a great week of sketching, everyone!

Re: Weekly OP Sketch Thread Nov 10-16

Alright, I am glad to be the first one who upload my sketch, just done, few minutes ago.

Lady with sun glasses huh! Actually I failed to workout the eyes, therefore I painted her a sun glasses. Ya, I am cheating!

This sketch done using cray-pas expressionist with a little bit of faber-castell on drawing paper.

Mysurface, that is spectacular. Especially the eye treatment you gave her through the sunglasses. You captured the transparency of the lenses and direction of her gaze. This is beautiful!

Re: Weekly OP Sketch Thread Nov 10-16

Hean Kuan,

Wonderful figure study! The sunglasses is not a cheat at all. In Craig Nelson's "Sixty Minutes to Better Painting" he does a quick study with one of his sons as a model. He had him wear sunglasses for the very same reason. To have to deal with modelling the eyes would have taken him longer than he had to spend on the study.

So you were really using a professional artist's "trick of the trade" without knowing it!

Hean Kuan, I love the angle of this one! Good realism and attitude.

Okay, I made a lot of updates to my website today (finally) and I put up the pumpkins! You can see them here:

http://www.laceybryantartist.com/pumpkins.htm

I tried to put in a couple of water souluable OP drawings I did with my friend Shirine, but they don't seem to show up. I did them as attatchments, too. Hmmmm...
