My Garden Journal

Hi folks, I started keeping a garden journal a while ago, and try and paint something from it most days, and from life wherever possible, tho understandably there are times when the camera is a vital piece of kit, skittish lizards and timid birds to name but a couple. The small paintings are annotated, and I shall try and post my efforts a couple of times a week, I'll start it off by uploading a few from the past month. The sketchbook is Clairefontaine, 21cm x 15 cm 250g NOT watercolour, and watercolours are a mixture, but generally windsor and newton.

hummingbird hawk moth on geraniums

goldfinchs and tits feeding on sunflowers

rats and rahs

michelmas daisies and red admiral

hedgehog in sun

cabbages

sweetpeas in a wineglass

escargots

chow fer now...Shelley
C & C welcome...

Re: My Garden Journal

What a grand idea! In years past, I have had my students keep a sketch journal (when I was teaching in the classroom)---it is a great link between art and literature! I would write/draw along with them and I find that I miss that these days. I have tried several times to begin such a journal without success---maybe watching yours develop will be an inspiration! These are some wonderful studies---please post any extended pieces that are a result of this journaling as well.
Happy painting!

Re: My Garden Journal

Shelley,

This is how I started painting last year ~ I started a nature journal. I write & paint in my journal almost every day like you. It's a wonderful way to keep up with painting daily.

Thanks for sharing yours - I'll have to see if I can get some of my pages scanned by dh (dear husband) to share.

Re: My Garden Journal

how charming. Your painting is perfect in its simplicity and the colors are wonderful. If you are not going to publish it, your family will treasure it always.

Re: My Garden Journal

Yes, thank you for sharing this! Wonderful idea that I will definitely have to try to get myself painting more often. You not only painted it with watercolor, but you painted it beautifully with words as well.

Re: My Garden Journal

I love this. I wish I had started a journal when my children were little and captured all the little things that we discovered together.
