I'm envious Jamie.
I've wanted to take one of his classes for a long time, but my timing just doesn't work out.
Have fun!!!

Re: Our Plein Air Shows, Awards, Articles and Events

Great news Rich! And here's more!

Wyoming Plein Air painting event has been extended to two weeks by popular demand! Dates are now as shown below. Please contact the organizers for applications which should be received by end of April please:

Wyoming Plein Air 2009 EXTENDED DATES

Painting Event 7/31 -8/14

Quick Draw, Auction and Judging 8/15

Art Exhibition & Sale 8/15 - 9/30, 2009

Sponsored by SOUTHWEST ART MAGAZINE, THE LINK GALLERY AND DESELMS FINE ART, CHEYENNE DEPOT MUSEUM, CHEYENNE DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY, CHEYENNE CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU, JONAH BANK, THE PLAINS HOTEL and EMERSON FRAMES, and others to be announced later.

We are delighted to announce the second Wyoming Plein Air painting event. This Plein Air event is a partnership between the Link Gallery and Deselms Fine Art in Cheyenne. We aim to make this national painting event one of the largest painting events and art exhibitions of its kind in Wyoming and, eventually, in the Rocky Mountain Region. We are now accepting 2009 Event entries for the selection process and are asking for applicants to submit their work

This year we are looking for approximately 80 artists who paint "en plein aire" to participate in this major outdoor painting event this summer in Downtown Cheyenne and across Wyoming. We are asking artists to spend at least 3 days painting in the City of Cheyenne and then they may travel anywhere in Wyoming to paint if they wish, or remain around Cheyenne. The diverse subject matter will include historic buildings, botanical gardens and other local scenes of interest as well as the prairies, deserts and mountains of the wild places, the National Forests and the National Parks.

We already have sponsorship and awards totaling some $7000 lined up including an award for excellence from our major sponsor, Southwest Art, who is giving a 1/3 page ad worth $1,800 to the first prize winner. We have further sponsiorship and awards in the pipeline and we also plan social events for the artists to participate in if they wish. There will also be a quick draw and auction on the 8th August. Further information is presented in our application form, with additional detailed information available later to the successful applicants. SouthWest Art is also offering special block advertising rates for participating applicants, which will also be included in the additional information.

We hope you will be as excited as we are about this event. We look forward to hearing from you and enclose the call for entries/application form.

Best regards,

Rebecca Barrett - event organizer and coordinator

Florida's Forgotten Coast Plein Air Invitational

Hello, everyone. This year's "Great Paint Out" along Florida's Forgotten Coast
will take place in May, from the 7th to the 17th. If interested please check the event's website, www.pleinairfl.com or see the promo in the April issue of American Art Collector Magazine (pg. 18). I'm lucky enough to have been included and would love to meet any of the W/C folks who might be in the area. I hope you'll come out for this event. Thanks.

Rich

Rich, I just noticed you are from California, so you are traveling a long way. I will be thinking of you while I am at the the Sonoma Plein Air Event, May 4 to 9 and May 14 to 17 at the Carmel Art Festival!

Re: Florida's Forgotten Coast Plein Air Invitational

Robin, I love your work. I wish you luck in Sonoma. I had to choose between the two events this year and since I'd never painted the gulf coast region before...

Dave, "don't try to pat the cute gators"? You know me better than you may have thought. I've always been fascinated by wildlife, especially reptiles. But, okay. Maybe I'll just paint 'em. Be well.

Sonoma Plein Air Event and Carmel Art Festival

May in Northern California will be a busy time. The Sonoma Plein Air Event is coming up ,May 4 to 9 and has a wonderful slate of artists. The Carmel Art Festival and Plein Air Painting Competition is May 14 to 17 and also has a very accomplished group of painters. Both of these events are fundraisers for art education in the schools. I am lucky enough to be participating in both.

There you go, Robin. By the way, I've seen your paintings and "luck" has very little to do with your inclusion in these events. Rock on!

Robin, How do you get that beautiful malachite blue that I see in your paintings. It reminds me of the blues I see in old Chinese paintings.
