*** Daily Wash Saturday 16th August 2008 ***

Morning all

A hazy but pleasant morning here in West Lancashire.

Linda, I did look at the Colour pencil work - it's fabulous. My niece is a talented CP artist. I keep suggesting she joins wetcanvas, but so far ...

I had a call from the brass band player who was the subject of my painting. He is interested in buying the painting, but doesn't want to pay £50 for it framed. I thought that was a fair price. In a gallery it would be double. I emailed him an image and he is going to ring me when he comes back from holiday in a couple of weeks. Ruth says I should ask £35 as it is "no good to me".

Isn't Jana a lovely, talented lady? She has such a sweet voice.

Not sure what is planned for me today

Doug

Re: *** Daily Wash Saturday 16th August 2008 ***

Morning Doug and all following.........

That picture seems a give-away for the quality of the work..but Ruth seems to have her thoughts!

As mentioned as I closed the Friday wash this morning I'm off to pick up a 'freecycle' printer this morning and once installed have a couple of letters to write..then hopefully will wet a brush or two as I have not done much these last couple of weeks...must admit I find it much easier to start an acrylic canvas off these days than a decent watercolour study..possibly because I can work much quicker...........

Weather, very unusual, bright and breezy and forecast not too bad..... yesterday rain free and got my front lawn cut, rather damp grass but it cut well on raised blades.Just talking to the young couple next door with two small children...they had been going camping in Cornwall this coming week but watched the weather forecast and decided to go to France instead, online bookings for ferry last night/online booking for site this morning and they are loading up now!...instant life.

Back later

Re: *** Daily Wash Saturday 16th August 2008 ***

Hiya Doug and all the rest to come ... another blustery day today and cold in the cold sunshine.
Cat (Tigger) allowed out this morning for the first time since surgery ... peace in the house at last. Came in quickly with the south westerly on the bare belly.
Went walking looking for gumtrees to photograph ... looking?? stupid ... we live in forest. No matter had a nice walk and took lots of photos of trees and bark (thanks Sylvia for implanting the idea)... when I work out how I will put them in the IRL. On one ironbark along the road there is a subtle nest of native orchids .... they are in bud ... will trip past in a week and check out the flowers . Saw them last year. No-one seems to notice them ... they are at foot level .... which is probably why they are still there.
Hope the rest of the world is either slumbering well or waking to a good day.

Re: *** Daily Wash Saturday 16th August 2008 ***

Good Morning all,
It is a little before 4:30 a.m. here in still-sleeping Oakwood. Another gorgeous day is in store for us.

Just zipping through at the moment, but will be back later with more chatter. For now though, just wanted to say

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CHAR (CharM)! Hope you have a fantastic day today and all year to come, my friend.

Doug,
Maybe sell it to him just matted (no frame) for £35 and let him pay to frame it. I agree with both you and Ruth. By taking it out of the frame and lowering the price, it makes him think he's gotten a bargain. When he then has to buy a frame for it, he'll realize he should have taken your price to start with.

Geoff,
Hope your freecycle printer turns out to be a good "buy".

Annie,
Glad Tigger was able to go outside for a quick walk. The photo of the tree with the orchids growing on it sounds like it will make a great painting.

to all, I'm off now for a quick spin through the forums.

BBL,

Sylvia

Happy Birthday Char

It looks as if its going to be a nice day today. James is going gliding. Poor him, its been a horrible summer for gliding, great for the garden but too wet for his big heavy glider. Lets hope the grass is not too soggy. So, with the men out the way that means lots of time to paint need to make the most of it, only two weeks left before the beginning of the school year

Doug, I think 50 pounds is very reasonable even for it unframed but if you want to sell it then the idea of selling it matted for less is good. he obviously doesn't know the price of frames.

Jana, beautiful harp playing

Uschi, your garden is looking fabulous

Morning Sylvia Annie Geoff and all yet to visit the wash

Ona

Re: *** Daily Wash Saturday 16th August 2008 ***

everyone,
I'm up early to go to garage sales and make a "to do" list for DH for the next two days. He leaves Monday for a week in Toronto and there are a few things he has to get done before he goes. Then I am nightshift tonight and have open studio for our art club tomorrow afternoon. Not enough hours in the day.

Happy birthday Char! May you have a great day, a wonderfully creative year ahead and health to enjoy it.

Doug - I like Sylvia's idea to sell it to him unframed and cheaper.

Jana - wonderful music for your friend's wedding

Geoff - I hope the printer works for you

Annie - glad Tigger is feeling better

Sylvia - enjoy your good weather

Ona - have a great day while you have time off to yourself.

I'm off and running keeping my fingers crossed that the rain will hold off until after garage sales.

Printer, looked good and plenty of ink and seemed to set up initially...but hasn't got a set-up disk and downloads have not worked so far. However, there is another Epson available locally so I may take that one on as well!

Hi all from a beautifully sunny and cool Niagara.....good forecast too

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHAR !!

Geoff, printers can be a pain. My expensive HP multi-thingy stopped working on my puter so I gave it to my son the Geek and bought a new one. This one works very well, BUT, the old one set up perfectly, 1st time, on my son's machine

Ellen, enjoy the garage sales. Most of the local ones have been washed out over the last few weeks

Ona, looking forward to seeing more great stuff as you have time to paint while James is "slipping the surly bonds of Earth" today (LUCKY man)

Annie, our cats all seemed to hate the cold. Meg once accidentally locked one out in the snow and the cat literally snarled at her for a day Looking forward to seeing the tree orchids pics.

Doug, 50 pounds is a VERY reasonable price for that lovely picture especially if it is framed. I agree with the others; sell it for 35 pounds WITHOUT the frame and let him find out just how much it will cost him to frame it

Jana, you play the harp beautifully and I am sure your friends' wedding will be a wonderful musical success.

Allan and Sylvia, and all to follow. Have a lovely day.

Still awaiting word on The Move. The landlord is getting very upset with the other tenant. He owns both properties, this one too, but she won't answer his repeated phone calls so we don't know what is happening and he can't tell the new tenant for THIS one when they can move either.

Ah well, things must get better soon and then it will be Panic Stations trying to get everything moved. I HATE moving

Good Morning Everyone!!! Bright and sunny one here.

First and foremost

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHAR!!!!!! Wishing you a great day and an incredible year ahead!!!!

I never watched any of these videos because I could only listen to or see 3 seconds at the time but now that Pat showed me that I can play these videos while I am doing something else and then just "replay" it I can watch them, so...

Jana, I thoroughly enjoyed your harp playing!!!!!!!!

Geoff, I would never touch another Epson printer, had several before and they constantly clogged up. Have had an Cannon for over a year and not one clog. Maybe you need to spring for a new one LOL

Ona, looking forward to your next painting!!!!!

Doug, either way is a gift to you because Ruth is right unless you want to enter it in a show.

Apart from going for my walk I have no idea what the day will bring, maybe play with my leaf painting.

to Denis, Lyn, Sylvia, Allan, Ellen, Annie and all yet to come!!!!!

Uschi

Re: *** Daily Wash Saturday 16th August 2008 ***

Good morning all!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHAR!!
I'll be getting your rough WC paper possibly this week. So, whenever you are in the area, let me know.

Doug - It's a shame that he doesn't know the value of the work (or even the framing for that matter). He is however, your prime customer for this particular painting. If you lower your price, make sure he doesn't advertise to his buddies what he paid or you'll have the whole band knocking down your door for portraits!

Ona - Enjoy your painting day. Gliding sounds interesting. I'm not sure if he'd have a free hand while gliding, but does James ever take a camera with him to take some aerial shots?

Ellen - have fun garage saling. I hope you are going to get the same sunny weekend for it that they are forecasting here. Sunshine ... woohoo!

My recovery is coming along nicely. I'm able to to do mostly everything now, except lean back in a chair, but it's coming along a little more each day. I've been painting, but not watercolours ... bedrooms and furniture. More of the same today.

Have a great weekend!

Shelley

Re: *** Daily Wash Saturday 16th August 2008 ***

Good morning! It was a chilly-willy night with the temp dropping to 10C... Steam rising from the lake this morning, because the water was so much warmer than the air, was positively surreal looking... the stuff of mystery novels...

Thank you so much for the Birthday wishes! This is my last year of being 50-something... And, for some reason, it feels hard... For the most part, I'm alone today, too, so that sucks... Ted is *showing* his truck at MoparFest this weekend, two of my Sons are far from home, my only Sister won't be coming down here till the end of the month and my youngest has to work today... I AM having lunch with my Mother, though!

So... I'll paint for a little while today... I have a still life on the board that has an incredible amount of detail... It took a couple of days to get it drawn out and I've begun laying the foundation washes...

When it warms a little, I'll take the peddle boat out onto the lake... I love the serenity... because it's cool, there won't be anyone out there to disturb the natural beauty...

Lunch with Mother...

Salsa... I HAVE to can up more salsa... those tomatoes just keep coming on!

Doug... I'm going to play devil's advocate... I respect your talent as an artist... and this portrait is truly exceptional... BUT... as Ruth has said, what on earth will you do with it??? *Giving* it away for a much lower price doesn't diminish your artistry, but does expand your munificence... this gentleman was never planning to purchase a painting... he would probably never have commissioned a portrait... *expecting* him to pay the going price for something he would never have bought in the first place seems almost unreasonable...

Geoff... you're painting in acr*lics??????? Wash your mouth out... Hope you get that printer working...

Hi Annie... what a nice walk, eh? For both you AND Tigger...

Good morning Syl... your new driveway is really looking nice... Ted and I saw something yesterday that I KNOW you'll want Larry to make for you... hehehe... now... this one is broken, but I'm sure you can imagine a brand new one... a SQUIRREL feeder!!!

Hi Ona... see??? My men are *out of the way*... I wish we lived closer, eh? Have a happy painting day!

Ellen, honey, there are NEVER enough hours in your days!!! You are the busiest lady on WC! I hate yard saling...

G'nite Allan!

Thanks, Lyn-sis... go out into the sunshine today!

Hi Denis... I don't know how you're able to deal with this other tenant... can she do what she's doing??? Wow...

Hi Uschi! Enjoy your walk while it's still nice and cool... and then, happy painting!

Thanks, Shelley! I probably won't be up that way till the Georgina *Imagine* exhibition... I hope that's ok... I can send you the money now, though... just pm me your mailing address...

I'm glad you're recovering... but painting walls and furniture?? Yuck...

...think I'll browse for a bit before heading down to the lake... sending love and hugs to all... especially for our John and Luella... and hoping your day is a happy and creative one...

Good Day All,

Happy Birthday Char!

Only fifty pounds? Framed? Doug, he is obviously ignorant of frame prices, let alone the value of the painting. The painting alone is worth much more than that.

Beautiful day promised here. Was quite nice yesterday. Lots of work to do, so must get going.

Enyoy your Saturday,
Bill
