Best MFA programs in painting

I am currently living in the northeast and am looking for advise on some of the best grad. schools in this general area. The easiest way for me to describe my work is it's contemporary-figurative-abstraction. So, I want to find a school that is very strong in painting. Any suggestions please???

I am looking into finding a good MFA in Painting program that is middle aged friendly too. I see no one answered your post. Have you found one/in school now?

Hello guys,
I am from the UK, so I know the universities around here, but I am afraid, I am a bit lost in the states... :-(

If you are looking for a strong, almost exclusive focus on painting, I recommend you take a look at the New York Academy of Art.

They have been on the scene for 25+ years and from the interactions I had with them, they are very serious about their work and programs.

Good luck!

If you're willing to consider online, you might take a look at San Francisco's Academy of Art. They've got some pretty good painters teaching, including Zhaoming Wu. I'm thinking about it.

The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, PA

Focuses only on the fine arts; Painting/sculpture/printmaking. You chose your own track and they give you your own private studio for the duration of the program. Classes are small. All ages attend. Mix of theory/philosophy/criticism and independent study.

Re: Best MFA programs in painting

the best MFA profram I have seen is the Hoffberger school of painting at MICA in Baltimore. The reason is thus, They are VERY exclusive and although many schools have "painting" MFA's they really are a only that in name. MICA's Hoffberger school however directly focuses on 2D surfaces and the mediums of real paint. You should check em out!
