International Orange

Hey Jen? Guys?
Any tips on mixing a color for International Orange? ..it's more "redish".
I use W&N paints, and this is only 4x6 on the Strathmore 140# postcard.
Reference is from "our" paint day, Jen.
On the painting IRL the mountains are more purple.

Thanks So Much.

Re: International Orange

Wow, Gladys Marie. Love the second version of the Golden Gate bridge and the foothills beyond it.

How wonderful that you and Jen were able to get together in the City by the Bay and paint en plein aire together.

Lovely job on the negative painting—or did you use masking fluid on the bridge????

Sylvia

Re: International Orange

Hi Sylvia, I masked the bridge & little boats so I can paint them in clearly, and
now need to mix that beautiful color for the bridge. An earlier version,
I painted the bridge first then it was too difficult to paint the sky & mountains in smoothly.
I could show that one but....
Thanks for looking & commenting.
I'll get a decent orange mixed somehow; thought maybe someone had already
tackled this and could give a head start on color combo for me.

Re: International Orange

Wish I could help with the mixture, but I haven't seen the bridge in many a year and don't remember the color it was even then.

Re: International Orange

That color looks very close to WN Cad Orange - perhaps with a little of your favorite yellow mixed in? Looking at my WN color chart, another close match is Winsor Orange.

Re: International Orange

GMarie, great work again coming from your corner. Love this bridge. Sorry can't help with that color. My favorite orange mix is Opera with New Gamboge.

Kay, thanks so much, sounds like a great color combo; I've much
affection for this bridge (and where it is) also. Thanks again.

Re: International Orange

Hello "MSCOUVILLON"!
International Orange is the official paint used to paint the Golden Gate Bridge.
This should be interesting. Most of my stuff has a fantasy look about it anyway;
would be nice to get it close though.

Re: International Orange

According to Wikipedia, Gladys Marie... "International orange is a color used to set things apart from their surroundings, similar to safety orange, but deeper and with a more reddish hue. The color is related to scarlet."

So... you might try napthol red and new gamboge...
