Anyone Licensing for Cross stitch patterns?

As part of my shifting focus slightly away from pet portraits with my dog breed series and wildlife work, I am tentatively looking into licensing some of my art (as opposed to self publishing with cafepress and redbubble).

I've been approached on a number of occasions over the years by cross stitch pattern makers wanting to use my art (not for free), but I have never had the time to get involved.

I suspect that the numbers and end result $ is probably fairly small, but worth looking into as a stepping stone. I am interested in hearing other peoples experiences with cross stitch licensing as to whether there are any standard terms, payments, one-offs or royalties etc.

Any experience anyone is willing to share would be appreciated

Michelle

I don't really know Michelle but are you on Etsy? There are a few crossstitchers and pattern makers in the business forums over there, perhaps worth asking them? Or I would think similar patterns like knitting might pay about the same?

Tina.

Re: Anyone Licensing for Cross stitch patterns?

Thanks Tina, I did join Etsy a couple of years ago but have never used my account - I admit to think it was more geared towards lower end craft type items, but I have just spent a couple of hours going through it and there is some animal art and pet portrait in the mid to high hundreds so I might have another think about using it.

LOL which wasn't what you were suggesting, I did kind of get sidetracked, but I will see if I can locate some pattern makers and ask them

Now I am going to trawl through the threads here to see what everyone has to say about etsy.

So much for painting tonight!
