winter thaw
Well, I think I figured out why I paint so many winter scenes (even in the summer)...it's because I LOVE the fact that I can break the watercolor rules and paint dark to light; in watercolors, I have to start with the lights and layer on the darks, here with acrylics I can actually put a highlight on the very top!! Plus, it's warm and humid here and I thought a winter scene is just what the weather man ordered! This one is sized 18x18 on gallery wrapped canvas, and as with the others on the gallery wrapped format, the painting continues onto the sides. c/c welcome!

I live where we get winter as well, and I must have walked this scene a million times.
How refreshing!

Re: winter thaw
 Hi Holly!
You do such amazing winter scenes! This is another beauty! I think you've captured well the look of melting snow and the colors are fabulous! The perspective here is also wonderful! Great work!

Re: winter thaw
Wonderful work Holly! I find the square format to be compositionally challenging and you've done it very nicely. That is a pleasing difference between the mediums, isn't it?
