Re: ***THE WATERING HOLE Friday, July 18***
Marcia,
Yes, fluid acrylics would most definitely be welcome here.
Brenda's link worked for me. Interesting to see the video clip for the Inktense. Actually I am in the process of placing an order with Dick Blick and threw those in...I think it's a bonus set that happenes to come with that DVD.
It's a rather *large* order so I will have plenty of things to play with here! Now just to wait for the shipping...isn't that the hardest part?

Okay, me again.
Brenda, your mention of tinted charcoal got me curious...managed to find your first picture playing with them...they look awesomely subtle. Have you used them much or posted any other works with them?

Re: ***THE WATERING HOLE Friday, July 18***
Congratulations on the new Watermedia Forum.
Great timing as I have just recently started working with fluid acrylics, and sealing my regular watercolors with clear acrylic varnish.
Good luck to all involved but I know youguys are in good hands with your mods.

Well knowing me I couldn't just click the link. I had to go and explore the site, especially something called "useful links." You never know, right? So I found this site, www.pencilpages.com, all about pencil collecting. Well I don't collect pencils, but "history" of anything, now that's for me. So here's a link for the story of hardness v. softness:

Kinda fun stuff.

Yea...just you all wait.
Subforums...YEP, hear the idea. Need to build our traffic and volume, as Carey says. So produce all of you, ok?
In the meantime, let's use some designated threads to help keep track of any particular themes. Like Kay, let's start a WATERCOLOR PENCIL & CRAYON thread, for explorations and peer coaching. They are different to work with, but probably more similar than different. I'd be excited to share and talk with others about them -- especially using them beyond the 'quick sketch' level.
Mike, Patty, others....I am intrigued to see the fluid / diluted acrylics. Hope you can get some things posted soon.

Yes, starting up some particular threads centering on various media is a good idea. Also it might be good to keep in mind that if your post centers on a technical question rather than a display of work, you can always use the "question mark" icon (the "post icons" found under your typing box when you start a thread) to alert people to your question (and be sure to state the media in your thread title if you have a particular question about something in particular ).

Re: ***THE WATERING HOLE Friday, July 18***
Carey,
I've played a little bit with the tinted charcoals, but only posted the one. Yes, they are VERY subtle, even more subtle than the Graphitint. I like them for "earthy" subjects like dirt, rocks, sand -- they are especially good for desertscapes. I have the small set of 12 and would recommend that set for a good "try me" size. I think they are best when combined with other pencils. Do you know if the DVD that comes with your Derwent Inktense order is the same one as on the link? After I posted that link, I went back to the site and had a horrible time trying to figure out how one would place an order. They have a "shop" and so I finally found some merchandise and then figured out that you must call them on the phone -- what's with that?! It's a UK number, I can't imagine any of us in the States calling. So. . . if DBs has that video with the pencils, what a terrific deal!! I thoroughly enjoyed the Painting and Drawing Channel lesson -- one super cool technique she showed was shaving the tips of the pencils onto wet paper to get some good spatter effect. She used a craft knife and just flicked the blade across the tips of the pencils so that tiny bits were flicked off. I've seen sanding the tips across a piece of sandpaper cupped in your hand to get a fine spatter onto wet paper, but the blade method is much faster, cleaner and less waste!

Ok...so I went back and tried again with the Inktense site for Demo's and couldn't get anything to load. My computer. UGH!
I'm just grateful I can still get to e-mail and Wetcanvas. Though I have no idea why...lol. Not that my daughter is real happy about not getting to facebook and all those other teen sites!

Re: ***THE WATERING HOLE Friday, July 18***
Brenda, I'm pretty sure that it's the same DVD. The pack that Blick is offering at the moment is a "special edition"--really good deal with the video included! (The only thing it doesn't have that the regular 24 pack does have is the outliner pencil...would have ordered that separately except they're out of it til the beginning of next month...but no huge deal...)
And yes I hate it when things online can't be done online! I had to fill out a passport application online once...and then I had to print it out and bring it into an office! What on earth is the point of *that*?!

Have a great vacation Patty and make sure you return home inspired to paint
I am really enjoying reading about all the different types of water based media used. This is a great forum
