Another Go at Macro
These are two of my latest attempts at getting in really close but I find the length of time the 995 takes to focus a bit disconcerting.

I'm new and I don't know what 995 is. Is this digital or traditional photo? I love the detail of the bee. I do a lot of macro with digital and find it so much easier than with my traditional camera.I am self-taught so I suppose I shouldn't say anything but however long the focus took the bee sure cooperated, was he refrigerated?(

Hi Johnene, welcome. 995 is the Nikon 995 Digital, and I can assure you the bee was not refrigerated but enjoying a hearty breakfast.

Must be a British bee. I have never seen such a fuzzy bee and I love him.

Hi Rob,
Excellent shot! I use my Nikon in manual focus mode when I am doing certain macro shots where I am having trouble focusing. If you haven't tried it yet, set the zoom to the macro sweet spot and press the manual focus button while turning the dial left. Spin it down so it says the smallest distance (.06in on my 990) and use it like that, increasing the number in the same manner as necessary. I keep "focus confirmation" on to help me see what's in focus on the LCD (it makes the things in focus super sharp so you can see it easily.) Hope this helps.
Anne

Nice macro of the bee, it looks very close to me The focusing on Nikons tend to be a bit slow, that's why I avoided buying one. What I like to do is set my digital camera on manual focus on the minimum focusing distance and "hunt" for macro shots, no AF time

Great shots Rob! I've only been around here for a short time but I'm noticing steady improvement in your photography.

Hi All, many thanks for taking the time to visit and comment. It is greatly appreciated.
Anne & Gateboy. Thanks for the suggestion to try manual focus. Your instructions are a great help, Anne. I've had a go already, albeit only practising not actually photographing, but I can certainly see the potential. (Watch This Space!!)
Alan, Thanks for the compliment. I did, in fact, first become interested in photography whilst in the RAF in my late teens, as one of my friends was in the Photographic Section, but after marrying and starting a family could no longer afford such a luxurious hobby. Now that the family are all up and flown and we are retired I am enjoying trying my hand at digital.
