Mouse's Zen Rocks
So we had more fun down on the very tip of Croton Point Park - MM taught me how to build rock stacks! Here she is working hard on hers:
And here's both of ours together, mine on the left (the lame one with only three rocks) and hers on the right. I think they look like a coupleof people sitting and looking down the river.

Hold on now yours isn't lame. Yours was standing when we went home mine, was toppled by a large bug from the wine cellar.

You girls look like you have SO much fun together!
Amy I love this shot of the rock stacks...your's looks like a statue of a lady sitting on her knees, actually it's quite beautiful. MM's looks like a bird perched on a pedestal looking out to sea. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder...to my eyes these are both works of art.

Thanks for the comparison shot with MM next to them, otherwise I'd think ya'll were out there building the next Stonehenge or something

Julie, we DO have a lot of fun, and Mouse teaches me all sorts of things! How to take pictures of dragonflies, how to stack rocks ... fun!
Geck - so move back! LOL!
Ivy, heh I didn't think about how large they might look in that second shot - I knew how big they really were so it didn't even occur to me. I'm a wimp, so I definitely had to use rocks I was capable of lifting.

We call these Inukshuks. I found this about them on the internet....
"Inukshuks rise from the landscape, always in human form, in a land where you see so few people. Solid guardians, keeping the vigil to direct the lonely traveller along the the best and safest passages, land or water. Today you may still see an Inukshuk (in-uk-shook) created along our highways or on the shores of our lakes and rivers.
To build an Inukshuk you must find the perfect balance for each rock. No one rock is more important than another, and each creation is unique. Inukshuks found in natural settings are created from rock gathered in the immediate area and reflect the characteristics of the surrounding land forms."
I've always wanted to build one but never had had the chance too.
what a fun day you had

What a great idea. The statues look great and I guess you must have had real fun making them. Must try that over here sometime.

Great work, girls, both with the photographs and the rock building.

The one on the left is all quiet and serene becoming one with the beauty of the surrounding landscape. The one of the right is trying to balance a rock on her head while wearing a stiff Elizabethan collar

Wow, Mouse, does that mean I am the quiet and serene one? Not sure I'd want to become one with the Hudson River, though.

Amy,
I just wanted to tell you that I'm glad you posted this thread. It's fun watching you and Mouse have a good time.
Em...THANKS for the information on the Inukshuk. I've seen these "stacks" on various Canadian Inuit programs and often wondered what symbolism they carried.
