Different Strokes: June '08

This is a copy of the original thread which can be found
here.

Welcome to the June edition of Different Strokes!

******************************
Please read the guidelines below carefully.

GUIDELINES:
On the first of each month a reference photo (or photos) will be posted in a thread entitled "Different Strokes".

Each member interested in taking the challenge will create a painting using the chosen reference(s) (whole or cropped) and on the 20th of each month participants will upload their interpretation of the reference for discussion within this thread, finished or not.

PLEASE DO NOT UPLOAD WORK TO THE THREAD BEFORE THE 20TH OF THE MONTH.**

At the end of the month the thread /discussion will be closed and a new challenge will begin.

Artwork can be any size on any surface but MUST be acrylic.

Monthly references will be approved by the guides and moderators.

**Please note, the single 'reveal' date is chosen so that we do not influence each other with our individual interpretations ...... that's the whole point of it being called 'Different Strokes'!

THIS MONTH'S REFERENCE:

Blicker Subway Station

Above the picture is an icon for larger size- click and you’ll find a higher res. version. The reference this month is by courtesy of Assaf. Thank you Assaf!

The photo this month will help us to practice and apply the principles of one-point perspective. Here is a link to an interactive lesson:

One-point perspective

Have fun!

Re: Different Strokes: June '08

Glad you're "in" Maureen, Janet, Lillian and Kathleen!

Kathie - I would be more than happy to post yours for you on the 20th. Just PM it to me when it's ready. I'm SO glad you'll be joining us!

EP - I was thinking you would do something very creative with this. You can do it!!!!! I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Michelle - I tried to find a reference that illustrated one-point but wasn't TOO difficult. I'm glad you didn't run the other way. So does this mean you're IN?!

Elizabeth

Re: Different Strokes: June '08

Hi Vicki! Glad to see you jumped aboard the subway challenge!

Hi Linda - I have much faith that this would be no problem for you.

I should add though that anyone who prefers not to try the perspective view might consider a crop of maybe one or more of the figures or even an abstract. I think there's a lot of different possibilities here (other than the overall) that would make fantastic paintings.

Elizabeth

Re: Different Strokes: June '08

I am cringing...and wanting to say no....but I probably will try it...lol. How much artistic license are we allowed to take with it?? The station looks interesting enough...but I am not as impressed with the people (no offense intended to whomever's friends/realtives/signifigant others, etc. this might be). I know we can crop, but I never had one where I wanted to add...lol?

Re: Different Strokes: June '08

Hi Whatsnext! Welcome to the Wet Canvas Acrylics forum! We're happy to have you join us for this month's Different Strokes project. How wonderful that the reference depicts somewhere you've been! We will be looking forward to seeing your entry.

Hi Susan! Sometimes a reference and a painting will surprise you once you get going on it. I'm glad you've decided to give it a go. Please feel free to add or subtract the figures as you please. I'm anxious now to see where that artistic license of yours takes you!

Elizabeth
