Arrow PLANT PARADE: A FORUM PROJECT - June '08

Plant Parade: a forum Project. June 08

This month Iím asking the question:

How do you handle your Greens?

Appropriate colour for this forum, donít you think?

Many people have commented, throughout WC!, that they find choosing and mixing greens a serious challenge.

Iíve chosen some references for you - not entirely made up of greens - but as usual, if you would like to work from life, please include your references for us later this month - or earlier if you wish!

Any medium is acceptable and the ĎGreat Revealí will be 25th of June, please do not upload your work before then.

Please feel free to ask questions, discuss possibilities and solutions as we work towards solving our problems for this challenge.

When you do upload on 25th, please if you will, share any of your problems, frustrations, experiences and solutions you feel may be of help to others.

Most of all, enjoy!

If Iíve forgotten anything, someone please tell me!!!

Your references for this month :

Leaves and chestnuts by Naamer

Leaves and blossom, light and shade by stalksthedawn.

Hosta and flower by tessp

Shiny Begonia leaves by TooLittleTime

Hi Maureen and others who will join later
Thank you Maureen, this is what I'm looking for, I have chosen the difficult one, Shiny Begonia.
To you Maureen and all artists, please help me along the way or from the beginning.
I'm going to use acrylic, could I start with the colour, without under painting and what colour? Thanks.

Hi Dewi - yes, certainly can start with the colour ...... actually, doesn't matter if the colour is right at this stage, just try to get the light and dark tones in so you can see the shapes clearly ....... the colour can always be adjusted later

Maureen, knew I could count on you making things challenging .

I spent last night browsing the watercolor learning zone and particularly greens; coinsidence? I think not! I found this quite interesting and even though it is in watercolor, I am sure the recipies should be appropriate for any medium.

There is also a GREENS discussion (FUN they say ) at the following link (scroll down a bit)

http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=319867

Hope this helps.

I've chosen a reference from my husbands photos. Should I upload it here for others to use as well?

No, that's OK thanks - just upload it when you upload your work on the 25th.

Hi Maureen!

Well, my greens could for sure use some improvement. I'm really loving that reference from Stalksthedawn. I'm going to try and squeeze this in!

Forgot to say that the photo was made of the tree that is in bloom in our yard as of yesterday. Had to photo it since the blooms die so fast...so it is kind of from life

Yes, Maureen, I have chosen the shiny begonia leaves! I am jumping in with both feet into the giant unknown (to me) world of greens!

Anghwar, thanks for the links! I'll come back and look at them before I start.

Woo hoo! Greens! Eat all your greens, mother always said. But I'd rather mix them. This ought to be loads of fun.

Last night finished mine of hydrangeas growing by our front door...such wide leaves in a great variety of greens. I started out from life, then took a photo of the bush because it was 110 here and I was melting.
