2nd Pastel: Greystone Bridge

I've just neared completion of my second pastel. This is done on Wallis Pro paper using primarily Unison pastels (that I just received for my birthday from my hubby-pastelpusher-who always encourages me). I'm still grappling with the medium. CC's welcomed and appreciated (though I know the stone wall incomplete and will be finished soon )

Thank you (and thanks to the poster of the photo in the RIL)

Geeta

Hi Geeta - Nice work on this and a very complex scene to boot! It's always fun to get new pastels! Great job. :-)

Re: 2nd Pastel: Greystone Bridge

Beautiful. You're very talented. And lucky - I wish my hubby would buy me some Unisons, lol.

Only comment is because there is a lot of detail (which you do so well it makes a beautiful scene) it's hard to know what the focal point is. And it makes for a very busy picture - the eye needs some place to rest. The sky, path and water provide that some, but I'd add more.

I love your style and am looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Michele

Re: 2nd Pastel: Greystone Bridge

Hello Geeta, very good work on this. It looks like you've drawn every stone, but you have mostly hinted at them, very good job on the bridge. Very nice subtle colour-variations on the houses, they look very three-dimensional. I get a strong feeling that the ref was taken in England.

Do 'grapple on' with the pastels, you're already good at them, and it takes a while to get used to a new medium.

Re: 2nd Pastel: Greystone Bridge

Hello Gail, Debbie, Michele and Charlotte,

Thank you very much for your words of encouragement. Yes the medium does take a bit of getting used to. Michele you are right that the eye needs something to rest on. Hopefully I will incorporate that in the new work.

Have a great day,

Geeta

Re: 2nd Pastel: Greystone Bridge

Geeta you are doing well for using a new medium so keep on "grappling".

Your stones are beautifully painted - or as Charlie said, "suggested". However, as Michele mentioned you have an awful lot of activity going on in this piece and I'd like to see some places less active as well. I also have a question about one area: what is the green horizontal object seen here:

It appears to be something architectural, that is attached to both the tree and the distant house chimney. You might want to decide if it needs to be there.

I'm also wondering if the tree branches against the sky are a wee bit too light and warm in hue.
