Spinning With A Theme-GWTW

By now I guess you know I am totally besotted with spinning! Not only that, I'm obsessed!! But in a good way, of course.

Yesterday, at work, I had this really neat idea cross my mind about spinning up a series of handspun yarn with a Georgia (where I live) theme. Well, when I got home, I had recieved a couple of batts I had ordered from High Prairie Fiber and when I saw them, I knew I had to get started on the GA themed yarn!!

Of the two batts, one I have divided into two separate colorways. The first one-orangey colored one-I am spinning now-is going to be called "Tara". Guess what the first sub-group of yarn will be? You guessed it-Gone With The Wind-it put us on the map! I call it Tara because it has red (Scarlett), a bit of green (Tara and O'Hara) and pinks, oranges and yellows which reminded me of the sunset scene where Scarlett is standing in the fields of Tara and vowing never to be poor again, etc. etc.

My mind is awhirl with ideas for GA yarn!! So, I've decided as well to try to get into one of the local Autumn festivals and perhaps sell these yarns. I don't really have any projects in mind for them-I just love the spinning!!! Hopefully someone else would enjoy using them in a project. It looks like there will be two good sized skeins of yarn from each batt so it would be enough for them to make something substantial.

Here are the batts I got yesterday

Tara on my Ashford Traditional

And my first skein of Tara singles

I'm compiling a list of names for yarns to be spun! I now have to go order more roving in certain colors...sneak preview: "Frankly Scarlett"!

Re: Spinning With A Theme-GWTW

I've spun all of this section of the batt into 4 large skeins of singles for my Tara colorway!
It has turned out to be a worsted weight yarn-I'll ply each of these skeins with itself -at 12wpi's.

Tonight I began spinning the next yarn and that will be 12 Oaks...it's a fingering weight yarn at 16 wpi's and also a 2 ply yarn.

FOUR SKEINS OF "TARA" SINGLES-TO BE PLIED

Here are a couple of pics I took today...the orange, of course, is Tara and the mustardy yellow one is "Twelve Oaks"....all the other stuff is some of the spinning I have done in the past 4 months.

Gorgeous stuff, Pam! You're really getting into this (and I mean that in a good way)! I particularly like Tara...

Re: Spinning With A Theme-GWTW

OK..finished "TWELVE OAKS" AND "TARA" and tonight I spun the blue singles for 'BONNIE BLUE". Tomorrow I will ply the blue with itself, then spin and ply the second color.

Wouldn't those two look beautiful knitted together in something!

Re: Spinning With A Theme-GWTW

Thanks Diana! I think so too!! I am hoping to get these plyed today and get the yardage on them-not sure how much I have in each skein but Tara will be a bit heavier weight (probably DK) than Twelve Oaks, when plyed. The bit of Twelve Oaks that I have already plyed is fingering weight. I'm really pleased with how they turned out...I've already had some interest in them on Ravelry.

Re: Spinning With A Theme-GWTW

Just finished my one skein of BONNIE BLUE...and I only got one because, sadly, I was in a big hurry and I FELTED the other skein Totally ruined it-it's not even worthy of kitty toys now!! But, pressing on...here is the one skein I did get and it is Worsted weight at 10 wpi.

BONNIE BLUE

Why am I not surprised!

I'm so sorry about Bonnie Blue -- it's just lovely and sad that you only got the one skein.

Thanks Diana! I'm hoping I won't have a war on my hands...they're both looking at the same yarns!!!! Anyway, I've sent them samples so I guess it's first come, first served. At any rate, I'll have 24 yarns in this GWTW series (actually two series of 12) Some of them are going to be so much fun to spin. I'm already wishing I hadn't committed to selling them as I would like to have a few of them myself...who knows, I might be able to sneak in a few extra yards for my stash though.

Lesson learned, eh? Of course, the stuff you spin is so beautiful, I wonder you can bear to part with any of it, but you'd probably need to add on to your house if you did that!
