Re: Paintings/Drawings Done In a Day April 2008

Painted this morning, it looks like her but I'm not satisfied because it's not "painterly" enough, know what I mean? Maybe tomorrow I'll do it again with some "beefsteak" sized paintstrokes.

Thanks Ryan.

I'm Scottish on my mother's side (she was born in Glasgow), my great-grandmother used to paint highland cattle, ever tried them? I think I'll do one just to continue the "family tradition." ha ha

So here's this morning's effort, a portrait of a wee beestie.

With thanks to Hugo Angel for generously allowing people to copy his photographs.

A very striking highland bull. You've really captured the wild wooliness of the beast.

I was chuckling when I saw him, as in your previous painting in this post, you mentioned using "'beefsteak' sized paint strokes"...looks like you put that into literal use on this piece.

Take care,
Stefi

Thanks, Stefi. "Beefsteak stokes".....ha ha, didn't think of that when I was painting it.

Hi Nickel, glad you like it. Stefi knows the difference between a cow and a bull even if we city-slickers think that everything that goes "moo" is a cow.

I did this watercolour of pigeons today. Xposted it in the watercolour forum. I 'think' I am finally getting a handle on my watercolour...who knows. At least, I am enjoying using them now, and I am fairly pleased with this painting. Its from one of my own photos. 10 by 12 ins.

I hope the image is not too dark...still having problems using my photo prog on this laptop.

June, thanks for your comment.

Your painting isn't too dark on my monitor, looks fine. I admire you for using watercolour, I'm too chicken. With oils, it's so easy to correct one's mistakes.

Another one of the same young lady, painted this morning, but couldn't bring myself to use beefsteak-sized strokes. One day I'll learn.

I like the red background in this one. It seems to suit her better.

This one is cross-referenced from the portraiture channel.

George, painted in acrylic on tile board, 12 x 16, ~ 1.5 h, from our sketch workshop on 3 April 2008.
