My Daughters (Lindsay)

Ok, here is the step by step photos that I took of Lindsay's portrait.
8x10" on Arches 140lb cold press.

colours used:
W&N Perm. Rose + Raw Sienna (fleshtone)
DaVinci Cobalt Turquoise (background)
W&N Ultram. Blue, green shade (background, eyes, hair and skin shading)
Hookers Green Dark (background & eyes)
Burnt Umber (hair & very thin for freckles)
Raw Sienna (hair highlights)
Alizarine Crimson (lips & eyelids)
Ultramarine Blue + bit of Burnt Umber (grey for shading white areas -teeth, eyes, shirt)

I applied masking fluid with a small soapy brush for the sunlit hair, eyes and inside of mouth until I was ready to paint these areas. It allowed me to put in the very wet skintones and background wash (separately, of course) without worrying about painting around the small shapes.

Skin tones were done wet-on-wet in several layers, allowing each to dry thoroughly between applications.

Thanks for looking!
Shelley

Re: My Daughters (Lindsay)

Thanks so much. I'm glad you lke the step-by-step. I should probably mention that the masking for the sunlit hair didn't come off until all the hair was painted. I removed the masking and added just a few final details in the 'white' spaces, leaving the sunlit sections as just the white of the paper.

THANK YOU SO MUCH Shelley for the time it took for you to post both of your wonderful daughters' portraits! WOW.....simply stunning......I'm in awe too as many others on the great job you've done. You must be very proud.

What did your girls think of them?

Re: My Daughters (Lindsay)

Shelley - I don't understand why everyone is so surprised that you have gorgeous daughters.

Thank you so much for this. I will be coming back over and over to look at her hair. As usual this is amazing work. Thank you.
