Voting for Comp #138 - Ye Olde Faithful
The topic for Comp #138 is: "Ye Olde Faithful"
What I am looking for is something old (it does not necessarily have to be antique or historical, I realise that old is subjective) that is still either in use or useful !
As always, here are the rules:
1. Must NOT have been posted to any part of the Wet Canvas! website before, in any forum
2. Max file size: 120 kb
3. Max image size: 500 pixels wide x 600 pixels high
4. Must be on topic
5. The WOW! factor (make sure you think about things like the composition, shadows, colour, sharpness, bokeh etc)
Before placing your vote, consider the following criteria:
1. Is it on topic?
2. Technically excellent ... all the usual: in focus, DOF, well sharpened, composition, artistic merit ... (as well as the above)
3. That WOW! factor
The entries are:-
1. The Olde Crock
2. Child with pearls.
3. Old faithfull
4. Olde Shoppe Selling Olde Things
Well that's it ... not many rose to the challenge this week. Vote and critique away

Re: Voting for Comp #138 - Ye Olde Faithful
I completely forgot about the comp this week! None of these really grab me, but here goes:
#1--I like this composition the best. The ax suits the photo well and leads you into the stockpile of wood in the stone canister. Good setup, wish the lighting had been more dramatic.
#2--I'm not sure I get that this fits the theme, but it could be I am mis-interpreting! It does seem like an old painting, but I'm curious as to how it would be "in use". As a painting, I suppose it could be "useful" on a wall...hmm.
#3--I really like the lighting here! This would be my 2nd favorite. I am not sure as to the setup though--seems as though the old cup is upside down, but I cannot figure out why...
#4--I am unsure how well this composition works, but I like the idea. Also not sure if the sepia tone fits this picture...but I can see it was to give more validity to the theme for this comp.
Well--that's it! Sorry I'm not too moved by anything this week, but it's just my opinion, nothing more! Thanks to those who did take the time to enter, wish I'd remembered to! Thanks Wendy for hosting, I know we've been lacking in volunteers! Once things slow down some here for me, I'll gladly take the challenge .

Re: Voting for Comp #138 - Ye Olde Faithful
Thanks for getting this comp up, Wendy. I have to admit I'm one of the slackers that didn't get around to getting an entry in to you. I'm afraid my muse has left me. I pretty much agree with Alishia on her analysis, so I won't rehash it myself.

Re: Voting for Comp #138 - Ye Olde Faithful
I too am sorry, I just plumb forgot!
For the crit; I can't see where any of them fit the topic with the possable exception of #3 if it is the custom where this person lives to cart your cup to your pub. Other wise I don't think it fits. It gets my vote just because I think it is the most visualy interesting and the overturned cup says no more.

Re: Voting for Comp #138 - Ye Olde Faithful
Retha I think its the ongoing site problem (read the site anouncement at the top of the forum page) I have quite a few photos missing today (not the comp ones though). Karin suggests that you sign out of WC and resign in .... not sure how that helps but .... maybe worth a try.

Re: Voting for Comp #138 - Ye Olde Faithful
Ok here is my critique for what its worth. #1 I liked but wish they had shown more of the writing on the jug to show how old it is, nice idea.
#2 Just cracked me up but agree does it really fit this comp.
#3 Ok the lighting is good, do like the colors in this mug, is it pewter, how old is it, can't tell if its old or new, etc.
#4 I think if it was taken at a different angle and lost the fence I would have liked it better. Cropped and brought out the sign on the store maybe??
Well thats it folks, thanks Wendy for all your work.....

Congrat's, Sue & Retha.
Retha - I think that is one of your best photographs technically speaking.
